Senior NC leader Rajesh Gupta J&K today strongly criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for what he termed a “scripted and opportunistic display of concern” over the ongoing eviction issue in Nai Basti, Jammu.
“For years, the people of Jammu have faced neglect, discrimination, and exploitation under BJP’s rule,” said Gupta, highlighting BJP’s silence on key issues such as unemployment, the drug menace, illegal tolls, and the allocation of local resources to outsiders.
Referring to BJP’s recent support for shopkeepers facing eviction, Gupta stated, “This is nothing but a last-ditch attempt to regain lost ground among Jammu’s disillusioned electorate. Where was this outrage when local youth were being robbed of jobs and resources?”
Gupta further questioned BJP’s moral accountability, citing the alarming proliferation of wine shops in Jammu, many of which are located near schools and religious places, while Kashmir has only a handful. “How can a party that talks of ‘sanskriti’ allow such social decay?” he asked.
He condemned BJP’s post-Article 370 promises as hollow, noting worsening inflation, unemployment, and rural distress, even as BJP MLAs doubled their own salaries.
“If the BJP truly cares about Jammu, it must act with sincerity, not just perform political theatrics when convenient,” Gupta concluded.
