10 districts and more than 77 per cent villages have power – Sh. Ranjit Singh

Chandigarh, January 25 – Haryana Power Minister, Sh. Ranjit Singh has said that “Mhara Gaon, Jagmag Gaon” Scheme is gaining popularity in rural areas. On the occasion of Republic Day, Power Utilities have given a gift to villages by including 82 more villages under the ‘Mhara Gaon-Jagmag Gaon’ Scheme. With this, 5,569 villages of Haryana will have 24-hour power supply.

The Power Minister said that it is a matter of pride for Haryana that the Union Finance Minister, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman has also appreciated the working of Power Utilities. He further said that this is probably for the first time in the history of Haryana that all the four distribution companies of power are profitable. Moreover, with the implementation of ‘Mhara Gaon-Jagmag Gaon’ Scheme, there is increased awareness among the consumers and they are willingly paying the power bills.

Sh. Ranjit Singh said that on January 26, of the 82 villages which would have 24-hour power supply under the said Scheme, 52 villages are of Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and 30 villages of Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam. These villages include 25 villages in Sonipat district, 9 in Rohtak, 18 in Jhajjar, 4 in Charkhi Dadri, 18 in Mahendragarh and 10 in Bhiwani district. Along with this, 24 hours power supply will be available in 77 percent of the State i.e. 5,569 villages from January 26. Earlier, this number was of 5,487 villages. He further added that 10 districts namely Sirsa, Fatehabad, Rewari, Gurugram, Faridabad, Panchkula, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Yamunanagar and Karnal have 24-hour power supply.

It is worth mentioning that the Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal, during a rally in the year 2015 in Badhra village of Bhiwani district, had appealed to the rural consumers to inculcate the habit of paying electricity bills which left an impression on peoples’ mind. Subsequently, from July 1, 2015, the Chief Minister started ‘Mhara Gaon-Jagmag Gaon’ Scheme from Dayalpur village of Kurukshetra district to provide 24 hours power to rural areas. As a result, today 5,569 villages have joined this Scheme.
