9th, 10th Muharram processions: ADC Kargil convenes meeting of reps of religious organizations, district officers

KARGIL AUGUST 24, 2020: As per the direction of the Deputy Commissioner/District Magistrate and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Baseer ul Haq Choudhary, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil Tsering Motup convened a meeting regarding the observance of 9th and 10th Muharram processions in the district with the representatives of
religious organizations Anjuman e Jamiatul Ulema Isna Ashariya Kargil (AJUIAK)/Islamia School Kargil and Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust (IKMT), Kargil and the concerned district officers here today.

Additional SP Kargil Iftikhar Talib Choudhary, ACR Kargil Shabir Hussain, Nodal Officers for Muharram arrangements besides the officers of Health, R&B, PHE, MC, PDD and other concerned officers attended the meeting.

It was decided in the meeting that in view of the current situation of COVID-19 pandemic, no major Muharram processions will be held in the district this year.

The meeting decided that only 2 congregations will be held on 9th and 10th Muharram at the District Headquarter Kargil this year by AJUIAK and IKMT Kargil which would be attended by 100 mourners only in each case.

The ADC stressed that the processions will be held amidst strict observance of the SOPs issued by the District Administration.

The participants of the meeting also unanimously decided that only limited number of mourners will be allowed to participate in the mourning processions being held at the Sub Divisional Headquarters only of the district, in which case the respective SDMs and Magistrates will be responsible to restrict the number of mourners in processions besides also ensuring the strict observance of SOPs issued by the Administration.

The ADC informed that separate SOPs regarding the observance of 9th and 10th Muharram processions will be issued by the District Administration shortly.

Meanwhile, the ADC urged the religious heads to ensure strict observance of SOPs like wearing of masks, use of sanitizers, social distancing, sanitization and other required measures so that the Muharram processions are held in a smooth and hassle free manner without compromising with the safety and well being of the mourners.

The ADC also asked the concerned officers to ensure proper cleanliness in and around AJUIAK and IKMT premises, Hussaini Park, Qatilgah and all Imam Baras besides ensuring proper sanitation of roads and lanes where from the processions will pass.

The PHE, Health and Power Development Department and Information Department were directed to ensure proper arrangements for adequate medicare, drinking water, PAS System and uninterrupted power supply facilities.

The ADC asked the religious organizations to coordinate with the Liaison Officers nominated by the District Administration for any issues related to arrangements for smooth conduct of mourning processions. He also called for close coordination between the religious organizations and the concerned departments so that all possible service delivery can be ensured to people during observance of the processions.
