“The government is getting plans made by engineers because constructing drains in an already-developed city is a difficult task” – Anil Vij

“Due to the failure of the then Congress government to make proper plans, the people of Gurugram are facing these problems today” – Vij

Chandigarh, August 4, 2025

Haryana’s Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Sh. Anil Vij said that the present state government is making every possible effort to resolve the issues of sewage and waterlogging in Millennium City Gurugram. The state government is preparing plans through engineers, because it is difficult to construct drains in a city that is already built, but the government is working on this seriously. He added that it is because of the lack of planning by the previous Congress government that the people of Gurugram are suffering today.

Sh. Vij was responding to questions asked media persons in Chandigarh regarding Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala raising concerns about waterlogging and garbage problems in Gurugram.

He said that whenever a city is developed, basic infrastructure must be established in advance. Drains, sewer lines, and drinking water pipelines are supposed to be laid first. But at the time when Gurugram started developing, the Congress government was in power, and Surjewala ji should go and check the records regarding that time.

Attacking the Congress, he said that had they understood that a city was coming up alongside Delhi, they should have built drains and roads in advance. Planning should have been done beforehand, but it wasn’t — and now the people are suffering today.
