Chandigarh, 29 November 2025

Haryana’s Transport Minister, Sh. Anil Vij, said that commuters in Ambala Cantonment will no longer have to wait for buses while standing in dust and discomfort. Prioritizing passenger convenience, the government is constructing 23 ultra-modern bus queue shelters across the city. These shelters are equipped with fans, lighting, ample seating arrangements, and display boards showing bus timings — ensuring complete comfort for passengers. Sh. Vij inaugurated one such newly built bus queue shelter near Civil Hospital, Ambala Cantonment today and termed the move as a significant benefit for the public.

Speaking with media representatives, he said that for the last 25 years, local buses did not have proper designated stops, forcing people to wait under adverse conditions. “Now, with these enhanced transport facilities, a new era of smooth and safe travel has begun,” he said. He informed that currently, 25 local buses are operating, out of which 15 are electric buses, and some mini buses are also in service. Every queue shelter now displays a bus timetable, and buses have been strictly instructed to halt only at these designated stops.

The Transport Minister further said that a GPS-based tracking system will soon be active in all buses. Passengers will be able to track the exact location and arrival time of buses via a mobile application. Major bus stops will soon feature airport-style digital display boards providing live bus movement updates. He sternly added that strict action will be taken if any bus stops anywhere other than designated shelters.

Sh. Vij shared that the entire project, costing Rs.2.16 crore, has advanced rapidly due to his efforts. Five bus queue shelters have already been completed, while the construction of the remaining ones is progressing swiftly.
