Minister of Higher Education and Languages Under the guidance of Harjot Singh Bains, the District Language Officer of Language Department Punjab, District Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar organized a function dedicated to the 76th anniversary of Language Department Punjab on 01 January 2024 in the office yard. Mr. SK Aggarwal (President, District Consumer Commission, Mohali and Rupnagar) as the chief guest and Prof. as the chief speaker in the event. Jalaur Singh Khiva (Ex-Principal, Government Brijindra College, Faridkot) participated. The function was started with the departmental song ‘Dhanu Lekhari Nanaka’ of the Department of Languages, Punjab. District Language Officer Dr. Davinder Singh Boha addressed the board of directors, literati and dignitaries saying ‘Welcome’ to the mother tongue Punjabi. While informing the audience about the history and achievements of Language Department, Punjab, it was told that it was established on January 1, 1948 as ‘Punjabi Section’ and since 1956 it has been known as ‘Language Department Punjab’. From the year 1948 to the year 2024 it has been 76 years. He said that in order to promote the mother tongue, the Punjab government announced to give priority to Punjabi language on all the boards of the state, which is highly commendable. On this occasion, he informed in detail about the activities of District Language Officer, Mohali.

Chief Guest Mr. S. K. Speaking in his speech, Agarwal said that it is a matter of pride for us that our new year has started with literature due to the 76th foundation day of Language Department Punjab being celebrated by the Office District Language Officer, Mohali. Literature works like a therapy for man. He said that I have reached this point today only because of my mother tongue Punjabi. He also said that sometimes our mother tongue helps us in court proceedings. The main speaker Prof. While congratulating the establishment day of Language Department, Punjab, Jalore Singh Khiva said that the Language Department has always been working for the advancement of language and literature, but the Office of the District Language Officer, Mohali is the pioneer due to its unique steps. Talking about Punjabi language in the context of culture, it was said that the basis of language is not grammar but culture. The basis of human development is his speech and language. Differentiating between speech and language, he said that in speech there is ‘mouth i baat’ and in language there is predominance of ‘first weigh then speak’. He also said that Punjabi is a world class language because it has absorbed words from many languages ​​of the world. He said that the word has been glorified because behind the word a whole concept is working. He called Guru Nanak Dev Ji a careful linguist and explorer.
