The team of doctors led by Dr Ravul Jindal, Director, Vascular Surgery, Fortis Hospital Mohali, recently treated a 35-year-old Kurukshetra-based patient, Chandan Jain, suffering from bilateral varicose veins (swollen and tortuous veins) along with leg ache, heaviness and swelling.
Upon examination, the patient’s right leg had swelling with dilated bluish bulge under the skin, redness, dryness, and the skin on her leg had also started darkening.
The patient, Chandan Jain, approached Dr Jindal at Fortis Hospital, Mohali, on 12th February, 2021. A Doppler ultrasound scan of the leg revealed impaired valves in the leg. The team of doctors led by
Dr Jindal carried out laser treatment of the diseased vein with Foam Sclerotherapy of varicosities. Due to effective treatment at Mohali, the patient was discharged on the same day of the procedure and was able to walk with ease. The patient has fully recovered and leading a normal life today.
Discussing symptoms of varicose veins, Dr Jindal, said, “The disease is characterized by aching and heavy legs, ankle swelling, dilated bluish bulge under the skin, redness, dryness and itchiness of skin. In some cases, the skin above the ankle can shrink as fat underneath it becomes hard. Irregular scar-like patches can also appear at the ankles and sometimes, patients can have chronic non-healing ulcers. If the disease is not properly evaluated and is operated by an inexperienced surgeon, chances of reoccurrence of varicose vein gets higher.”
On causes that led to the occurrence of the disease, Dr Jindal, who is the President of the Venous Association of India, said, “The exact reason for the cause of varicose veins is not known. However, it is common in patients who are tall, stand continually over a prolonged period and those who’re post-pregnancy. Sometimes, the disease runs in families and is genetic.”
On the latest advancement in treating Varicose Veins, Dr Jindal, said, “The modern treatment is less painful and ensures early recovery. The procedure takes about 30 minutes and within one hour, the patient can go home. Also, the patient is on fewer medications and post-procedure care.”
Lauding the treatment received at Fortis Mohali, the Patient, Chandan Jain, said, “Dr Ravul Jindal has offered me the best line of treatment for varicose veins. I was able to recover fast and could walk with no support. Anyone suffering from varicose veins should immediately get medical intervention.”
