Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker, Mr. Gian Chand Gupta had held a meeting with the officers of the State Government and of the Vidhan Sabha Secretariat at the Vidhan Sabha Secretariat on September 24, 2020 in this regard. The Speaker had instructed the Chief Secretary to formulate a plan so as to name all the State Laws in the name of Haryana instead of Punjab and the decision to constitute the Committee was taken in this meeting. Notably, there are 237 Laws in Haryana which are presently in the name of Punjab.

Haryana was established in the year 1966 under the Punjab Reorganisation Act. Thus, the existing Acts of Punjab at that time were enforced in Haryana. It was proposed in 1968 that Haryana would be able to make necessary amendments according to its requirement. Haryana Vidhan Sabha also got the right to remove obsolete Laws.
