3rdDay of Wondrous Wetlands ended with the opening of Bat Route in Ropar

Rupnagar: 17 June 2021: On the 3rdday of Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, Ropar Wildlife Division, Department of Forests and Wildlife Preservation, Punjab organized the launch of Bat Route in Ropar Conservatiuon Area.

Located near Bird Watch Centre, Bat route is a track from inside the green canopy of tall trees where the visitors can see bats in natural habitat. Endorsing the need of knowledge and education on nature, Dr Monika Yadav, IFS, DFO Ropar said that anyone can visit the route anytime to observe the bats and their behaviour. She said that this place is a knowledge mine for those who would like to study the bats and their environment.

She further told that the species of bats that can be seen here is Greater Indian Fruit Bat. Also known as ‘Indian Flying Fox’, this is a large sized mammal who survives on fruits and nectar.

Mr Vishal Chauhan, IFS Conservator of Forests at Department of Forests and Wildlife Preservation, Punjab, who was present at the launch appreciated the vision and intention of spreading knowledge about nature in such an interactive and practical way. He said that there is nothing in comparison to see bats so closely in person even if you have read about them and seen pictures.

Among them was Guramanpreet Singh, PFS Divisional Forest Officer (Territorial), Ropar and other department officials present at the moment.

The department had called in for entries from students in the competitions of story-telling, model making and presentation/ write up on the topic ‘Your Action Plan for Natural Resources’. More than 100 entries have been received and the department will send them participation certificates.
