47th Prof. Mohan Singh Memorial International Fair

Only a wreath-laying ceremony will be held, all other events cancelled

The Prof. Mohan Singh Memorial Foundation holds an important meeting here today and after discussing with members and office bearers it has been announced that the 47th Prof. Mohan Singh Memorial International Cultural Fair will be celebrated this year with only a wreath-laying ceremony, while all other events have been cancelled. The meeting, chaired by Foundation Chairman Gurnam Singh Dhaliwal and President Rajiv Kumar Lovely, was attended by officials and art lovers, including Prof. Mohan Singh Memorial Foundation Patron Pargat Singh Grewal, General Secretary Dr. Nirmal Jodha, Secretary Activities Master Karamjit Grewal, and artist Gulzar Singh Kalkat.

Gurnam Singh Dhaliwal and Rajiv Kumar Lovely said that the recent floods have left people shocked and devastated by the massive loss of life and property and the severe damage to the economy. They said that the floods have come and gone, but the fear of its terror still lingers in people’s minds.  In such a situation, instead of celebrating the fair, it is important to pray that such a natural disaster never occurs again. The meeting expressed deep sorrow over the untimely demise of renowned artist Jaswinder Bhalla, musician Charanjit Ahuja, writer Dr. Fakir Chand Shukla, algoja player Kamaljit Singh Bagga, and young artist Rajveer Jawanda.

Dhaliwal and Lovely said that on Saturday, October 18th, wreaths will be laid on the statues of Professor Mohan Singh, S. Jagdev Singh Jassowal, and Mr. Jaswant Bhanvra outside Punjabi Bhawan. This will be followed by tributes to Jaswinder Bhalla, Charanjit Ahuja, Dr. Fakir Chand Shukla, Kamaljit Bagga, and Rajveer Jawanda. They also appealed to all artists, writers, and art lovers to attend the event.
