The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal arrived in Punjab on Tuesday on a two-day visit. Kejriwal arrived at the Amritsar airport in the afternoon on a regular domestic flight from Delhi. AAP state president and MP Bhagwant Mann, party’s Punjab affairs in-charge Jarnail Singh, co-in-charge Raghav Chadha (both MLAs from Delhi), Leader of Opposition Harpal Singh Cheema, MLA Prof Baljinder Kaur and other local party leaders; arrived at the Amritsar airport to welcome Arvind Kejriwal.

From there, the convoy of vehicles of Kejriwal and other leaders left for Sekhwan village (Batala) of late former minister Jathedar Sewa Singh Sekhwan. On arrival at Sekhwan village, Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann along with other leaders expressed their condolences to the family of late Jathedar Sewa Singh Sekhwan and solaced his wife Amarjit Kaur, son and party’s Qadian assembly constituency in-charge Jagroop Singh Sekhwan and younger son Mehraj Singh; encouraging him to follow God’s will.

In a brief interaction with the media at Sekhwan, Arvind Kejriwal said that the house where Jathedar Sewa Singh Sekhwan and his entire family had joined the Aam Aadmi Party, it was sad to come to the same house today to express grief. Kejriwal said, “Jathedar Sekhwan was suffering from a stomach ailment. Attempts were also made to treat him at a Delhi hospital but that personality; who had made a great contribution in the service of Punjab, Panth and society, could not be saved.” On the occasion, local leaders including district president Kashmir Singh Bahla, Batala constituency in-charge Sherry Kalsi, Fatehgarh Churian in-charge Balbir Singh Pannu, among others.

It may be recalled that Jathedar Sewa Singh Sekhwan passed away on October 6, after a prolonged illness. Earlier on August 26, Arvind Kejriwal had arrived from Delhi to inquire about the condition of the ailing Jathedar Sekhwan. At the same time, Jathedar Sekhwan and his son Jagroop Singh Sekhwan had formally joined the Aam Aadmi Party. After meeting the Sekhwan family, Arvind Kejriwal left for Jalandhar, where he would pay obeisance at the world famous Devi Talab Mandir on the auspicious occasion of Navratri, for the prosperity of Punjab.
