The Indian freedom struggle was a long drawn affair. Many great revolutionaries laid down their lives to free their country from two centuries of British rule. Alas, many of them never got to breathe in independent India.
1.At The Age Of 8, Bhagat Singh Wanted To Grow Guns In His Fields:
Like every child, Bhagat Singh was also fond of sports, but for him, even at the age of 8, the sport he wanted to play was to drive the British colonial rulers out of India. Out in his farm, he often questioned his father as to why they could not raise guns on the ground so that they could reap a crop that would enable them to fight the British better.
2.The Jallianwala Bagh Massacre Made Bhagat Singh A Rebel Forever:
He was only 12 years old when a heavily armed British regiment fired indiscriminately on an unarmed gathering at Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar on 13 April 1919. More than 1000 people were killed and several thousands were injured in cold blood. Such violence shocked the revolutionary child. The day after the massacre, BhagatSingh did not go to school, but slipped and went to visit the place where unarmed people were shot dead in the past. From Jallianwala, he collected a handful of clay which he kept as a memento of the British atrocities in India.
3.The Russian Revolution Left An Ideological Influence On Bhagat Singh:
The 1917 Russian Revolution led by Lenin, which transformed a country of enormous proportions, was a kind of awakening for the ambitious rebel. The success of the revolution demonstrated that the power of the people could reverse the rule and liberate oppressed people. At an early age, he read about socialism and the ideals of a rebel to free India from British rules.
4.In College, He Established A Nationalist Youth Organization:
When Bhagat Singh joined the college in 1923, a terrible fire of nationalism erupted. National College, Lahore was founded by Lala Lajpat Rai, another great nationalist leader of Punjab. With the aim of contributing towards the freedom movement, Bhagat Singh founded the NaujawanBharat Sabha (Indian Nationalist Youth Organization).
5.Bhagat Singh Was A Good Theatre Artist With An Impressive Academic Record:
Many people do not know that Bhagat Singh had good acting skills and was very popular among his fellow students for his performance. His performances in plays such as Rana Pratap ‘, Samrat Chandragupta’ and Bharat Dadda ‘created strong patriotic feelings among the Lahore student community. He also had an impressive record in academics.
