DC terms scheme a boon for the needy people unable to get treatment due to financial constraints
 
Jalandhar, June 2-
People from Scheduled caste communities are eligible for the benefit of financial assistance for the treatment for serious and life-threatening diseases under the Dr. Ambedkar Medical Aid scheme.

Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said that eligible beneficiaries must have annual income below Rs. Three lakhs and they can get aid in treatment for the diseases of kidney, heart, liver, cancer, brain surgery, spinal surgery and other organ treatments. He further termed this scheme a boon for the poor people from above mentioned category unable to seek treatment due to financial constraints wherein they can get financial aid worth Rs. 1.25 lakh for heart surgery, Rs. 3.5 lakh for kidney surgery/dialysis, Rs. 1.75 lakh for cancer surgery/chemotherapy/radiography, Rs. 1.50 lakh for the brain surgery, Rs. 1.5 lakh for brain surgery, Rs. 3.50 lakh for kidney/organ transplants, and Rs. One lakh each for the spinal surgery and other treatments.

He also said that under the scheme 100% of the estimated cost of surgery would be released directly to the concerned hospital where the patient would be treated. He further mentioned that under the scheme treatment facility could be availed in all the state government hospitals including government medical colleges and hospitals duly recognized by the state government. He stated that the eligible beneficiaries can apply as per prescribed performa available on the website of the Ambedkar Foundation, where one can apply for medical aid by filling up the prescribed application. The application must be accompanied by self attested copies of Caste Certificate, Income Certificate, Ration Card / Aadhaar Card and a certificate attested by the Medical Superintendent of the hospital regarding the estimated cost of surgery.

Mr. Thori further said that the applicants can apply for medical assistance directly at the website or with the Director, Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, 15, Janpath, New Delhi. The applications must be received at least 15 days before the date of surgery. He appealed to the eligible and needy persons belonging to the Scheduled Castes to avail the benefits of this scheme while exhorting them to contact the Secretary Red Cross Inderdev Minhas on his mobile number 98765-02613 for more information.
