District Administration, Amritsar organized a meeting today at the DC office to discuss the upcoming City Needs Daan Utsav initiative, a week-long festival of giving celebrated nationwide from 14th to 18th October. The event witnessed the active participation of over 90 educational institutions and NGOs, all eager to contribute to this community-driven program aimed at reducing waste and promoting sustainable practices through the RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) initiative.
The meeting was convened by Smt. Gursimranjeet Kaur, PCS, Assistant Commissioner (General) who welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of community involvement in the CityNeeds Daan Utsav. Deputy Commissioner, Amritsar explained how institutions and NGOs can actively take part in the drive, encouraging them to gather used clothes, shoes, toys, books, electronics, and other reusable items for distribution to those in need.
Smt. Gursimranjeet Kaur, PCS, AC(G) urged all participating institutions and NGOs to promote the event within their communities, ensuring widespread awareness and involvement. They reaffirmed the District Administration commitment to supporting such initiatives in line with the Mission Meri LiFE program by the Government of India, focusing on sustainability, community welfare, and responsible waste management.
In his address, Sh. Paramjeet Singh highlighted the role of CityNeeds in organizing the collection and redistribution of materials as part of Daan Utsav, with a focus on sustainability and community welfare. He also detailed the process through which institutions and NGOs can participate in the event, encouraging maximum involvement. Citizens can donate between 14th to 18th October at these Collection Centres. They can get list of their nearest collection centre by giving a Miss call to 7877778803 and get details on WhatsApp.
The participants discussed plans to collect used items during Daan Utsav, which will then be distributed to NGOs and underprivileged communities across the region. The District Administration has also provided logistical support for the collection and distribution process to ensure the drive’s success.
Daan Utsav is a platform for individuals, institutions, and organizations to contribute towards social and environmental welfare. The upcoming drive will not only aid in resource redistribution but also reinforce the principles of RRR for a cleaner and greener future.
