As part of the run-up to the BSF’s 60th Raising Day celebrations on December Ist, the BSF Punjab Frontier today flagged off a cycle rally from BSF Joint Check Post (JCP) Wadhwa, Fazilka, to BSF JCP Attari, Amritsar. This 491 km rally along the India-Pakistan border aims to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse, promote a healthy lifestyle among the youth, and inspire them to join the Border Security Force. The cycle rally was flagged off by Shri Vijay Kumar, DIG, BSF Sector Abohar, in the presence of Shri Shailendra Mishra, Commandant (Adm); Shri Ramchand, Commandant (Ops); and Shri K.N. Tripathi, Commandant, 55 Battalion. A total of 60 cyclists, including BSF and civilian participants, are taking part in this initiative, which symbolizes unity and collaboration. The rally will traverse 491 km along the international border, passing through significant locations such as JCP Hussainiwala and the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, before culminating at JCP Attari, Amritsar, on November 30, 2024. Along the route, cultural programs and weapon exhibitions will be organized to engage the local border population and youth. The primary objective of the rally is to raise awareness about the menace of drug abuse, encourage the youth in border areas to pursue a healthy and drug- free lifestyle, and strengthen the bond between the BSF and the local communities.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Vijay Kumar, DIG, BSF Sector Abohar, emphasized the importance of engaging with the border population, particularly the youth. “This cycle rally underscores the BSF’s commitment to fostering unity, promoting positive change, and highlighting the significance of a healthy lifestyle free from drugs,” he said. The BSF Punjab Frontier, responsible for guarding the 553 km Indo-Pak International Border in challenging conditions, has successfully neutralized numerous attempts of trans-border smuggling and drone intrusions this year. This initiative reflects the BSF’s unwavering dedication to national security and the welfare of border communities. The rally is expected to leave a lasting impact, raising awareness, fostering health and unity, and inspiring a positive transformation in the border regions.
BSF raised on December 1, 1965, is India’s primary border-guarding force. Tasked with safeguarding India’s land borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh, the BSF plays a vital role in maintaining national security and preventing trans-border crimes.
