The Governor was speaking at a meeting of the senior officers of the Police Department at Raj Bhavan, today. He said that the prevalence of drugs was high among the youth in the age group of 18 to 35 years. Keeping this in mind, there was a need to work on a concrete policy, he added. He said that narcotics control units should be increased in the State and the conviction rate should also be increased so that a sense of fear was also created in the society by punishing the persons involved in this illegal act.

The Governor congratulated the Director General of Police for starting the register number 29 in all police stations for drug traffic operators. Appreciating the efforts of the police administration, the Governor said that concrete steps were being taken by the department to control drug abuse in the state.

He apprised about various facets of drug menace in the State, data on cases registered under NDPS Act, and about Strategies of HP Police to contain Drug Menace.

Earlier, the Director General of Police also presented the ‘Flag Logo’ to the Governor honoured by the President to the Himachal Police, which is among the best eight police in the country.
