Haryana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Sh. Shyam Singh Rana said the land of Haryana has always been the land of warriors. Be it the revolution of 1857, the Kargil war, or challenges within the country, the brave soldiers of Haryana have always come forward to serve the nation.

Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Sh. Shyam Singh Rana said this today while attending the Shaheedi Diwas programme in Yamunanagar as the chief guest. On this occasion, he offered floral tributes to the portrait of Amar Shaheed Rao Tula Ram and planted saplings in memory of the martyrs.

He said our soldiers and paramilitary personnel not only fight on the borders but also stand as a shield for the countrymen during disasters, terrorist attacks, and other crises. Their sacrifice, discipline, and dedication are a source of inspiration for all of us. Today is not only a day to pay tribute but also a day to take a pledge that we will not let the sacrifice of our brave soldiers go in vain. We are committed to the honour, rehabilitation, safety, and welfare of their families.

Sh. Shyam Singh Rana said that since 2014, a total of 418 dependents of martyred soldiers of armed and paramilitary forces have been given appointments on compassionate grounds. The Haryana Government has increased the ex-gratia amount for armed and paramilitary personnel martyred in war from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore. Haryana is the first state to give cash awards to all Agniveers who receive gallantry awards and distinguished service medals, similar to regular armed forces personnel. The Haryana Government has also fixed the ex-gratia amount of Rs 1 crore for Agniveers in case of martyrdom in war.

The Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister said that we should thank our brave soldiers who have served the country with courage, honour, and discipline. Their sacrifices are the foundation of peace and progress of our nation. Today, we are also observing Haryana Veer Shaheedi Diwas in the memory of Rao Tula Ram Ji, the hero of the First War of Independence of 1857. Rao Tula Ram was a prominent figure in the 1857 Indian revolt, belonging to the Rewari princely state of Haryana. For his courageous leadership and contribution in the freedom struggle against British rule, he is considered the hero of Haryana.

In this programme, soldiers and paramilitary personnel from seven districts of Haryana – Panchkula, Yamunanagar, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Karnal, and Panipat – participated. The Cabinet Minister also announced a grant of Rs 5 lakh to DAV Girls College for organizing the programme.
