Claims AAP government’s report to the central government lacks facts
PM announced ₹1,600 crore immediate relief, assures more aid upon receiving proposals
Kejriwal Ji must know hat repeating a lie doesn’t make it true
Chandigarh, 10 September 2025
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Punjab chief Sunil Jakhar launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, accusing it of presenting irrational data to secure central aid, which is ultimately harming the people of Punjab now and will continue to do so in the future. Despite this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has provided ₹1,600 crore in immediate relief for the state and assured further assistance upon receiving additional proposals. Targeting AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, whom he called the “super CM,” Jakhar said, “Repeating the same lie over and over doesn’t make it true.” He added that such baseless and factually inaccurate reports have sidelined Punjab’s real issues.
Addressing a press conference in detail, Jakhar revealed that AAP’s Chief Secretary claimed damages of ₹13,289 crore before the Prime Minister, while Punjab Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian pegged the figure at ₹20,000 crore. This arbitrary presentation of figures reflects the AAP government’s irresponsible approach.
He pointed out that the state government demanded ₹5,043 crore for rural development in flood affected villages where as in 2022-23, it spent only ₹1,156 crore in all the 13,500 villages of Punjab, and in 2023-24, similarly a mere ₹778 crore. Similarly, over the past three-and-a-half years, the AAP government spent just ₹500 crore on roads through the Mandi Board. Yet, it now demands ₹1,022 crore for repairing just flood-affected village roads, despite recently announcing that ₹800 crore would be used to repair 8,000 kilometers of rural roads. These contradictory and baseless figures expose the government’s theatrics and lack of seriousness.
Challenging Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s claim that the central government owes Punjab ₹60,000 crore, Jakhar likened it to Kejriwal’s “fantasy” of generating ₹60,000 crore from sand and liquor revenue, calling it absolutely a bogus claim. He questioned Punjab’s Finance Minister that if state government really believes it then why did he not raise this issue during the GST Council meeting on September 3, 2025. Refuting allegations of discrimination against Punjab, Jakhar cited Bihar, with a population of 13 crore and nearly double Punjab’s area, which is also approaching elections the disaster relief funds provided over last five years to Bihar prove no bias against Punjab he said.
Quoting Water Resources Minister Barinder Goyal, Jakhar noted the state government’s claim that ₹230 crore received from the center was spent on flood management before the monsoon. If so, why does the government now cite State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) conditions as an obstacle to justify its failures? He argued that the government’s failure to utilize these funds properly led to widespread devastation in Punjab.
Jakhar highlighted that the ₹12,000 crore of SDRF received from centre has not been utilised for flood mitigation efforts but has been squandered on publicity stunts and other purposes . By citing regulations, the government is now trying to cover up its mismanagement. He recalled that in 2023, Mann announced ₹15,000 per acre as compensation, but only ₹6,800 was disbursed which it received from central government . The Chief Minister must now clarify the source of the promised ₹20,000 per acre compensation.
Jakhar emphasized that farmers deserve all possible relief, but had the state implemented the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and paid the farmers’ ₹32 crore premium share, each flood-affected farmer could have received ₹42,000 per acre in insurance coverage.
Reiterating PM Modi’s commitment, Jakhar said the ₹1,600 crore is only immediate relief, with more aid promised upon receiving further proposals. Additional support has been announced for schools, national highways, and damaged houses under various schemes. The next installment of the Pradhan Mantri Samman Nidhi Yojana and the second SDRF tranche will also be released in advance. He added that the state can undertake rural development under MNREGA if it has the will and the intention.
Jakhar criticized the state for not mentioning the losses faced by farm laborers and small traders during discussions with the PM. He also pointed out the government’s lax attitude, noting that while 23 lakh Punjab farmers once benefited from the Pradhan Mantri Samman Nidhi Yojana, only 8 lakh now receive aid due to the state’s failure to complete eKYC processes.
Jakhar concluded that Kejriwal’s government is trying to shift the blame for its failures onto others, but the people of Punjab will not allow it to succeed.
