Jammu, 09 August 2025
The Tiranga is not just a piece of cloth with three colours — it is the aan, baan, and shaan of our great nation. It symbolises the unity, integrity, and sovereignty of India. Every thread of the Tiranga carries the sacrifices of countless freedom fighters and the dreams of over a billion Indians. Recognising its importance, the Modi Government has given a great message to the entire country: to hoist the Tiranga at homes, offices, schools, and all government institutions during the grand celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
In Jammu & Kashmir, this message holds a very special significance. Before 2014, the situation was drastically different. For many years, regional political parties in J&K showed no respect for the Tiranga. Due to terrorism, separatist propaganda, and repeated calls for bandh, no one dared to hoist the national flag in many areas. Even more shocking was the anti-national mindset reflected in the statements of some leaders — a former Chief Minister even went so far as to say that if Articles 370 and 35A were abrogated, there would be no one left to hoist the national flag in J&K. Such remarks exposed the deep-rooted disregard for our nation’s unity among certain political circles.
However, history took a decisive turn after 2014 with the formation of the Modi Government. The abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A on 5 August 2019 marked a new chapter for Jammu & Kashmir. The Union Territory came under the complete jurisdiction of the Central Government, leading to a series of major reforms in governance, security, and development. Most importantly, the atmosphere of fear around the Tiranga disappeared. Today, from the snow-covered mountains of the north to the plains of Jammu, the Tiranga proudly waves at every government building, school, market, and public square.
The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, organised from 2 August to 15 August, is a remarkable initiative under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Its aim is to instil a deep sense of patriotism in the hearts of all Indians, especially the people of J&K. This campaign is not just about displaying the flag; it is about reviving our connection with the ideals it represents — courage, peace, and prosperity. By encouraging every household, shop, school, and office to hoist the Tiranga, the campaign reinforces the idea that the flag belongs to every citizen, not just to government institutions.
In J&K, the sight of the Tiranga fluttering freely everywhere sends a strong message: that the days of fear, suppression, and separatist dominance are over. Even many political personalities who once distanced themselves from the national flag now stand with it. This transformation is the result of consistent efforts by the Central Government to restore normalcy, promote unity, and instil national pride in the region.
It is the moral duty of every Indian to respect the Tiranga. This respect should not be limited to ceremonial days like Independence Day or Republic Day but must be part of our everyday lives. Hoisting the Tiranga is a simple yet powerful way to express our love for the nation, to honour our martyrs, and to commit ourselves to the progress of India.
As we celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, let each fluttering Tiranga in J&K and across India remind us of our shared history, our sacrifices, and our common destiny. Let us all contribute wholeheartedly to Har Ghar Tiranga and show the world that the spirit of India is united, unshakable, and forever proud.
