Simran Dhillon bags second Senate seat

In a resounding victory, youth leader Simranjit Singh Dhillon has been elected as Senate member of Panjab University in the graduate constituency to become the second candidate to win by clearing the quota by bagging 2902 votes.

Simran Dhillon started his political career with student politics from Panjab University in 2008 and served as PUSU President till 2010. Later he joined the SOI student wing of Shiromani Akali Dal in 2015 and played key role as party in-charge and contributed to the massive win of SOI in the student body elections.

Disclosing this, SOI national general secretary and office incharge Gurpal Singh Mann said Simran Dhillon’s victory would give a fillip to the pro-student policies of SOI which had been appreciated by the community at large. He said Dhillon had earlier held key positions in SOI including national general secretary and chief spokesperson. He said Dhillon had also served as Director of the Youth Development Board of the Punjab government.

The Dhillon family has also recently won elections to the municipal corporation in Mohali, with Simran’s mother Nirmal Kaur winning the election from ward number 15.
