( Asks CM to review pandemic situation directly with DCs
(Asks CM to ensure life saving drugs were not black marketed)
(Urges Covid patients to take advantage of Plasma bank started by YAD)
Chandigarh, May 2 – Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal today appealed to Punjabis to to go in for vaccination against Covid even as he asked
chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh to review the worsening Covid pandemic crisis directly with deputy commissioners to ensure remedial measures were taken immediately. He also appealed to needy patients to avail the Plasma Bank facility initiated by the Youth Akali Dal (YAD).
In a statement here, the SAD President said Mr Badal said during his earlier tours of the State and interaction with people he had realised there was an extreme reluctance on the part of the general populace to get vaccinated. Appealing to people to leave aside all misgivings and get themselves vaccinated speedily, the SAD President said “ vaccination is the only way to tackle this pandemic”. He said even former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had got himself vaccinated at the age of 94 years. He said the Punjab government had delayed placing orders for vaccines and should take required action to ensure availability of vaccines.
Mr Sukhbir Badal said there was a growing feeling in the State that the people had been left to their fate and that the government existed in name only. “ The chief minister must correct this impression immediately. Things have deteriorated to such an extent because all responsibilities of the chief minister have been sublet to officers. He must take charge of the situation and review the situation in the worst hit districts on a daily basis himself. Capt Amarinder should also hold regular meeting with the team which has been given the responsibility of combatting the pandemic”.
Mr Sukhbir Badal also asked the chief minister to take immediate action to ensure life saving drugs were not black marketed in the State and people did not suffer for want of Oxygen and shortage of hospital beds. “ I am getting calls on this issue on a daily basis. Life saving drugs like Remedisvir which are worth Rs 1,000 are selling for Rs 30,000. People are being charged Rs 10,000 to Rs 30, 000 for short distances on ambulances”. He said there should be a cap on what ambulances can charge from patients and their relatives. “The SAD is ready to cooperate with the government as it has in the past but the government must adopt a more pro active approach to mitigate the sufferings of the people”.
Mr Sukhbir Badal disclosed that he had earlier requested the Youth Akali Dal (YAD) to go in for Plasma donation. He said the YAD had created a Plasma bank and appealed to needy patients to avail of this facility. He also released three numbers – 9908000013, 9779171507 and 8427544763 for the convenience of people. He also appealed to the YAD to organise ‘langars’ in government hospital for patients and their attendants. eom
