Vijai Vardhan directs officers to conduct survey and mapping of Gaushalas in the state for setting up biogas plants

Chandigarh, December 9: Haryana Chief Secretary, Vijai Vardhan has directed the concerned officers to conduct survey and mapping of Gaushalas in the state for setting up biogas plants under Gobar-Dhan scheme, so that electricity can be supplied from these plants to the villages at cheaper rates or gas used for cooking.

Vijai Vardhan was presiding over the meeting regarding implementation of Gobar-Dhan scheme here today.

Directing the officers, Vijai Vardhan said that while surveying and mapping the Gaushalas, special care should be taken to know how far the Gaushalas are from the populated areas in the cities and villages and possibilities to set up plants should also be explored. He said that the gas produced from this plant is very cheap and under this scheme, more emphasis should laid on IEC activities for the people of rural areas to adopt biogas. In addition, giving more subsidies to popularize the private biogas plant model was also discussed.

It was informed during the meeting that under the Gobar-Dhan scheme, a community biogas plant is running in Naya Gaon village, District Hisar, from which gas is being supplied to more than 150 households through a pipeline. This experiment revealed that the supply of gas through pipeline is much better than that of compressed gas and its cost is one third of that of LPG gas cylinder. It was informed during the meeting that the work of setting up community biogas plants in Bhiwani and Mahendragarh districts is in progress. Apart from this, the work of setting up plants in 7 more districts will be completed soon.

It was informed in the meeting that work is being done to set up at least one biogas plant in every district of the state as per the directions of the Central Government and in the current financial year plants will be set up in all districts. Giving detailed information about the plan in the meeting, it was told that under this scheme, dung and waste products are converted into compost, bio-gas and bio-CNG. The purpose of this Gobar-Dhan Scheme is to make the villages clean, produce energy by converting cattle dung and solid waste from farms into compost and bio-gas so as to increase income. This scheme will also ensure cleanliness in rural areas.
