The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Kargil, in collaboration with the Union Territory Disaster Response Force (UTDRF), organized a disaster preparedness and awareness camp in Kargil to educate the public and officials on emergency response techniques and life-saving methods.

The event was attended by Dy. SP Traffic Asif Hussain, Assistant Director Information Raza Ali Abidi, CDPO Kargil Parveen Akhtar, and several other officials from different departments along with members of the local community.

Inspector Muhammad Jameel of Kargil Police addressed the gathering, highlighting the importance of scientific approaches during emergencies. He advised against using risky traditional methods such as applying pressure to the neck during choking incidents and encouraged reliance on proper first-aid training.

A major highlight of the camp was a live demonstration on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), where the instructor explained its use in clinical death—a state where the heart and lungs stop, but brain function remains.

The session also covered bandaging techniques for different types of injuries head, arm, and leg using wooden splints to stabilize fractures and applying knots away from the injured area to reduce pain.

Instructors also showed how to make an emergency stretcher using household items like blankets and wooden sticks, which can be used to transport injured persons to safety during emergencies.

In the concluding session, Inspector Jameel shared crucial safety tips for conflict or explosion situations. He advised residents to stay on the ground floor, avoid windows, and take shelter in corners if in a single-story building.

The camp was conducted with great enthusiasm and practical demonstrations, equipping participants with essential life-saving skills and improving community preparedness in disaster scenarios.
