Chandigarh, May 20 – With COVID cases hitting a new peak, the demand for medical oxygen has increased as it is a critical component in the treatment of COVID-affected patients. Therefore Haryana Government is making constant efforts in procurement and distribution of Liquid Medical Oxygen in the State.
In this endeavor, Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power Plant, a unit of Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited, located at Village khedar (Hisar) has shown its technical capabilities in manufacturing the most needed Oxygen from its Hydrogen Generation Plant.
Sharing more information in this regard Additional Chief Secretary (Power)-cum- Chairman, HPGCL Sh. P.K Das said that at RGTPP, there is Hydrogen generation plant for the production of hydrogen (through electrolysis process), which is being used in the plant for Generator cooling purposes. However, considering the threats posed by COIVD-19 and the increasing demand of Oxygen, a team of engineers of RGTPP led by Chief Engineer Sh. Mohammed Iqbal, carried out retrofitting of the Hydrogen generation plant and has started the production of Oxygen. The samples of the Oxygen have been tested and approved by SriRam Institute and the requisite license has also been issued by the Commissioner Foods & Drugs Administration, he said here.
Sh. P.K Das said that now oxygen at the 10 Nm3/hour can be produced and with this capacity, 32 number of Type- D cylinders or 150 number of B-type cylinders can be filled and supplied to the hospitals for treated of COVID affected patients.
While congratulating the team for its remarkable achievement, Sh. Das said here today that he is confident that team will continue to demonstrate their technical skills.
