The prestigious WAVES Film Bazaar 2025 wrapped up on a high note, with the Ladakhi-language feature “Kakthet” (Idiot) emerging as one of the biggest winners of the event.
The film clinched the top prize in the Co-Production Features category, earning a $10,000 cash grant.
Directed by Stenzin Tankong and produced by Ritu Sarin, Tenzing Sonam, and Rajesh Thanickan, Kakthet is an India–France co-production that brings forward a compelling narrative rooted deeply in Ladakh’s cultural and social landscape.
The film captivated the jury with its strong storytelling, unique regional perspective, and cinematic craftsmanship.
WAVES Film Bazaar, recognized as a leading platform for South Asian independent cinema, once again brought together filmmakers, producers, and industry professionals from across the globe.
The recognition for Kakthet marks a significant milestone for Ladakhi cinema on the international stage.
