\nThe district health department has advised the residents of the district to take precautionary measures to protect themselves
\nfrom the dengue fever and water-borne diseases these days. While issuing an advisory, Civil Surgeon Dr. Adarshpal Kaur, District
\nEpidemiologists Dr Vikrant Nagra and Dr. Harmandeep Kaur in a joint statement urged the people of the district to be more cautious and vigilant
\nto prevent dengue fever and water related diseases. The health officials said residents need to be more vigilant and cautious these days as there is
\na fear of Aedes aegypti mosquito breeding till the end of November. They also warned the people against the water-related diseases like diarrhea,
\ncholera, typhoid, hepatitis A and E during the rainy season and against drinking contaminated water. They added that many cases of water borne
\ndiseases are being reported everyday due to which it is important to take precautions to stay away from them.
\nThe civil surgeon said, \u2018Though diagnosis of dengue causes fear and panic among the patients, it is important to understand that many
\nare simple fevers that can be treated at home. Normally, platelet count goes down with most of the viral fevers and all the viral fevers should not
\nbe taken as dengue fevers. In case of dengue fever, good intake of fluids, healthy home food and complete bed rest is required.\u201d Health officials
\nadded that dengue patients have high fever for five to six days. Platelet count may drop after the fever ceases. They asked private hospitals to
\nreport any suspected or confirmed dengue case to the health department and send suspected samples immediately so that confirmatory test can be
\ndone and remedial measures can be taken on time. Notably, dengue testing and treatment is available free of cost in government hospitals across
\nthe district.
