\u00a0Sahir Ludhianvi was a revolutionary and progressive bard of India, who raised his voice against the exploitation of women folk, poor peasants, and labourers, so said Sri Ram Arsh, a noted Urdu and Punjabi Poet of Punjab.<\/p>\n

Sharing his long companionship with Sahir Ludhianvi with the students of the Urdu department at a seminar organized at Panjab University, Mr. Arsh described Sahir as a symbol of nationalism and humanism.\u201cSahir like Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Manto was moved by the miserable and pitiable condition of women in Indian society and did not hesitate to raise his voice for their emancipation from suffering and agony\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Mr. Arsh mentioned that whenever Sahir visited him he always preferred Makki di Roti and saag and used to entertain the gathering with his melodious songs and ghazals after the dinner without any hesitation.<\/p>\n

Mr. Arsh, who has many books to his credit, also recalled his long association with other very popular Punjabi lyricists Nandlal Nurpuri and Bawa Balwant.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Ali Abbas, Coordinator of the department of Urdu said that Mr. Arsh enjoyed the same relationship with Sahir Ludhianvi as was enjoyed by Hali with Mirza Ghalib.<\/p>\n

Dr. Ali Abbas said that the students of the Urdu department would be immensely benefitted with this interaction by having first hand information about various aspects of Sahir\u2019s life from a senior Journalist and retired senior civil servant in Mr. Arsh, who remained a very close confident of a legendry poet Sahir Ludhianvi.<\/p>\n

Students of various classes recited the popular ghazals and lyrics of Sahir on the occasion.<\/p>\n

Dr. Zulfaqar Ali presented the vote of thanks.<\/p>\n
