The invited speakers were\u00a0Professor Dr. ShreejoyTripathy, Independent Scientist fromThe Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and Dept. of Psychiatry, Physiology, University of Toronto and Dr. MahendraBishnoi, NABI, Mohali, and Professor Shyam S Sharma, NIPER SAS Nagar<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Professor Anil Kumar, Chairperson, UIPS<\/strong>\u00a0welcomed the audience and briefed them about the achievements of UIPS and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to SICI for the funding and\u00a0Professor Dr. ShreejoyTripathy,\u00a0Professor Shyam S Sharmaand\u00a0Dr. MahendraBishnoi, accomplished\u00a0neurosciencescientist for concedingto the request of the Institute to be our speakers of this one day symposium.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>DrPrachiKaul, Director, SICI<\/strong>in her opening remarks gave an overview of SICI and its active role in setting up collaborations across India and Canada. DrKaul also talked about all possible opportunities that can be availed at SICI for research grants and fellowships.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Professor Kanwaljit Chopra, Convener of the symposium\u00a0<\/strong>gave brief overview of the programand introduced the speakers to the audience highlighting their vast repertoire of achievements<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The eminent speaker deliberated upon\u00a0 howneurological\u00a0disorders are the leading cause of disability and the second leading cause of death worldwide.\u00a0 The most complex and debilitating neurological diseases affect humanity. Brain disorders like Alzheimer\u2019s disease, Parkinson disease, Huntington\u2019s disease, traumatic brain injury and stroke affect millions people worldwide each year and have limited effective treatments.
