Union Minister of State for Labour & Employment, Sushri Shobha Karandlaje, led the Indian delegation at the BRICS Labour & Employment Ministers\u2019 Meeting held under Brazil\u2019s Presidency in Bras\u00edlia on 25th<\/sup> April 2025. The meeting, convened under the slogan \u201cStrengthening the Cooperation of the Global South for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance\u201d<\/em>, culminated in the adoption of a forward-looking declaration addressing two pivotal themes: \u201cArtificial Intelligence (AI) and the Future of Work\u201d<\/strong> and \u201cThe Impacts of Climate Change on the World of Work and a Just Transition\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Sushri Karandlaje highlighted India\u2019s human-centric approach to technological transformation, aligning with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi\u2019s vision of \u201cTechnology for Empowerment, Not Exclusion\u201d<\/em>. She highlighted India\u2019s National Strategy for AI, which prioritizes ethical adoption, workforce upskilling, and sectoral applications in agriculture, healthcare, and education. Initiatives like FutureSkills Prime and the Namo Drone Didi program exemplify India\u2019s commitment to creating tech-enabled livelihoods, especially for rural women and youth. The National Career Service (NCS) platform, powered by AI, was showcased as a model for bridging skill gaps and connecting millions to employment opportunities.<\/p>\n

On climate action, India emphasized it\u2019s just transition framework, ensuring green growth translates into equitable job creation. The Sector Skill Council for Green Jobs (SSCGJ) and Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) were highlighted as transformative initiatives driving skilling and sustainable practices. India\u2019s achievement of reduction in GHG emissions (2020\u20132019) and its net-zero by 2070 pledge reinforced its climate leadership. Collaborative efforts with the ILO to protect workers\u2019 rights during this transition were also emphasized.<\/p>\n

Key Outcomes of the BRICS Declaration<\/strong><\/p>\n

The declaration commits BRICS nations to:<\/p>\n

  1. Promote inclusive AI policies<\/strong> that balance innovation with worker protection.<\/li>\n
  2. Advance social dialogue<\/strong> to ensure fair climate transitions.<\/li>\n
  3. Strengthen South-South cooperation<\/strong> on labour governance, digital inclusion, and green job creation.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    India\u2019s contributions were commended for aligning cutting-edge technological advancement with inclusive social welfare, reflecting Hon\u2019ble Prime Minister\u2019s mantra of \u201cSabka Saath, Sabka Vikas\u201d<\/em>.
