Girdhari Lal Raina, former MLC and BJP spokesperson, has strongly condemned former Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti for opposing the allotment of land to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Pulwama district. He termed her stance as irresponsible, politically reckless,treasonous and driven solely by narrow political compulsions to remain relevant after repeated rejection by the electorate.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn a constitutional democracy, dissent and criticism of government policies are legitimate rights. However, these rights are not absolute,\u201d Raina stated. \u201cThey are subject to reasonable restrictions under law, particularly where public order, national security, and the safety of citizens are concerned.\u201d He cautioned that any attempt to undermine the morale, legitimacy, or operational effectiveness of security forces tasked with protecting civilians from internal and external threats crosses a clear legal, ethical, and constitutional red line.<\/p>\n

Raina emphasised that the allotment of land for security forces is a core responsibility and essential administrative function of the government. Such decisions are guided by operational requirements, strategic imperatives, and the need to provide secure bases and even housing for personnel deployed in highly sensitive and terrorism-affected areas. \u201cProjecting this routine and necessary process as illegitimate or malicious is factually incorrect and deliberately misleading,\u201d he asserted.<\/p>\n

He pointed out the glaring hypocrisy in Ms. Mufti\u2019s opposition to the land allotment at Puchal village in Pulwama district. \u201cWhile she enjoys round-the-clock security provided by the same forces for herself, her residence, and her party leadership, she seeks to deny these forces the basic infrastructure required to effectively perform their duties, including the protection of innocent citizens of Kashmir,\u201d Raina remarked.<\/p>\n

The BJP spokesperson also expressed serious concern over the PDP leadership\u2019s repeated use of provocative and divisive rhetoric that risks inciting public sentiment against security institutions. \u201cSuch irresponsible conduct erodes public trust and can directly endanger lives on the ground,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n

Raina further criticised Ms. Mufti\u2019s selective and opportunistic interpretation of secularism, calling it a reflection of her political double standards. \u201cWhile she frames certain issues as matters of personal choice, she has maintained a studied silence when radical elements curtailed those very freedoms\u2014particularly of women\u2014as seen in the forced disbanding of the all-girls band \u2018Pragaash\u2019,\u201d he noted, questioning the sincerity of her advocacy.<\/p>\n

Referring to her past record, Raina said that attempts to rationalise or downplay the 1986 anti-Hindu violence in Anantnag, coupled with her refusal to speak against atrocities faced by Hindu minorities in Bangladesh, expose a consistent pattern of selective outrage that is incompatible with genuine secular or democratic values.<\/p>\n

\u201cPolitical disagreement cannot be allowed to degenerate into narratives that delegitimise national security institutions or inflame communal sentiments,\u201d Raina concluded. \u201cJammu & Kashmir deserves responsible leadership that respects constitutional limits, upholds national interest, and stands firmly with the forces that safeguard its people\u2014standards that Ms. Mehbooba Mufti and the PDP have repeatedly failed to meet.\u201d<\/p>\n
