SAD promises to end Syndicate system once it forms govt to end exploitation of Transporters<\/strong><\/p>\n

Chandigarh, April 26 , 2021 \u2013<\/strong> The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today announced its Transport Wing even as it promised to end the Syndicate system enforced by the Congress government after breaking Transport unions besides assuring to take one tax from truckers to end their exploitation at the hands of various departments.\"\"<\/p>\n

Addressing a press conference here, former MP Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra said the Congress government had handed over the transport trade to its henchmen by breaking Transport union and creating Syndicates. He said there was a lot of corruption in auction of new sites and mediators were ruling the roost at the cost of genuine transporters.<\/p>\n

Prof Chandumajra said once the SAD formed a government in the State, it would end the monopoly of the Syndicates and form joint committees in every sub division which would be presided over by truck union and industry representatives besides the sub divisional magistrate. \u201cThese committees will ensure transparent functioning\u201d, he said adding outside trucks would not be allowed in the defined areas of each committee.<\/p>\n

Prof Chandumajra also announced that at present there were a plethora of taxes which caused harassment to truckers. He said once the SAD formed the government it would bring all taxes under one banner and issue a sticker to ensure trucks were not stopped on the roads. \u201cNo one will have the authority to stop trucks on the roads\u201d, he added.\"\"<\/p>\n

The former MP also announced that the SAD would organize a Transporters Convention in June during the course of which the party would firm up the future Transport Policy for the State. \u201cThe transport sector has been regarded as a business which is associated with agriculture. At a time when agriculture is going through a rough phase we must take steps to make this business profitable\u201d. He gave the example of how the Congress government\u2019s skewed policies had resulted in the scrapping of 45,000 out of the total of 95,000 trucks in the State.<\/p>\n

The SAD leader also demanded that old mini bus routes which had been scrapped be restored immediately. He said if this was not done by the Congress government, the SAD would do so one it formed the government. He also demanded that the government come out with a relief package for school buses, mini buses and taxis which had been severely affected due to Covid pandemic since the last one year. He also announced that the government would come out with a separate policy for mini buses one it was returned to power.<\/p>\n
