This can\u00a0revolutionize on-chip data communication and processing in future.<\/p>\n<p>Conventional electronics is composed of logic circuits having a large number of transistors interconnected by metallic wires. The data carried by electric charges suffer undesirable heating limiting its integration density.<\/p>\n<p>Spintronics, also known as spin electronics, or the study of the intrinsic\u00a0<a title=\"Spin (physics)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Spin_(physics)\">spin<\/a>\u00a0of the\u00a0<a title=\"Electron\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Electron\">electron<\/a>\u00a0and its associated\u00a0<a title=\"Magnetic moment\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Magnetic_moment\">magnetic moment<\/a>, in addition to its fundamental electronic charge, in\u00a0<a title=\"Solid-state electronics\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Solid-state_electronics\">solid-state devices<\/a>\u00a0offer to harness electron spins. Their collective precession can carry information encoded in its amplitude, phase, wavelength, and frequency without any physical motion of particles, eliminating unwanted energy waste and promising wave-based computing.<\/p>\n<p>To this end, Professor Anjan Barman and coworkers from the\u00a0S. N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, an autonomous institute under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India,\u00a0have developed electrically reconfigured parallel nanochannels that tune the\u00a0behaviour of\u00a0<a title=\"Spin waves\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Spin_waves\">spin waves<\/a>\u00a0in nano-structure elements. They have done this by\u00a0periodically tailoring the\u00a0property that confers a preferred direction on the spin of a system, also called anisotropy\u00a0using the electric field &#8212;\u00a0technically called the principles of voltage-controlled magnetic anisotropy<strong>.<\/strong>\u00a0This work has been published in the journal\u00a0<em>\u2018Science Advances\u2019<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In the recent research, spin-waves were efficiently transferred through these nanochannels, and this could be switched \u2018ON\u2019 and \u2018OFF\u2019 and its magnitude altered by a meagre voltage of few volts.
