VILLAGERS URGED TO STAND AGAINST DRUGS

Punjab government is committed to save water and youth of Punjab. The state government has taken measures under the “Yuddh Nashiya Viruddh”, which have started yielding meaningful results.
The Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Medical Education and Research Dr Balbir Singh said during the district level function organized by the district administration mobilizing village defence committees as Pindan De Pehrdar in government’s fight against drugs at a local resort here.
He added that led by Chief Minister Mr Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab police was working on multi pronged strategy of breaking the supply chain of drugs. At the same time, the addicts are being reformed as the de-addiction centers and rehabilitation centers that are laced with the best of facilities.
He said that awareness is being spread from village to village by forming village defence committees. Yoga, meditation, sports activities are being conducted in the rehabilitation centers to help addicts on path of reform to overcome obstacles. He added that support groups are also being formed in the villages which will help drug addicts to get rid of drugs.
On this occasion, Horticulture, Freedom Fighters and Defence Services Welfare Minister Mr. Mohinder Bhagat said that this campaign is not for a single person but every village-city dweller. He called upon people to contribute in it. He added that the aim was to make state drug free.
He said that for this purpose a village defence committee has been formed in every village and nasha mukti yatra is to be conducted and meetings are to be held wherein every village’s sarpanch, panch, nambardar, ASHA workers and other dignitaries should give full support.
Speaking at the event Lok Sabha member Sangrur S. Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said that the government was making full efforts to connect the youth with sports. He added that sports nurseries are being established in every district so that youth can be engaged in sports and kept away from drugs. He said that Barnala – known as Mecca of writers and intellectuals – has the responsibility to ensure that state emerges victorious in war against drugs.
On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Mr. T Benith said that the “Village Defence Committees” formed against drugs are like warriors in this mission. He said that if someone uses drugs in the vicinity, they should be made aware of its ill-effects and help to get them admitted in the nearest drug addiction or rehabilitation center. He said that drug addiction yatra sabhas are to be held in the villages from May 7, this yatra will be held in 3 villages of each block every day.
SSP Barnala Mohammad Sarfaraz Alam said that if there is a drug dealer in village one should inform the police about him/her. He said that the police is working day and night to break the supply chain of drugs. On this occasion, the chief guest also administered an oath against drugs to all the attendees.
Earlier, students from different government schools presented cultural items laying emphasis on war against drugs.
