Officers concerned should ensure safety standards along with construction of roads: Mool Chand Sharma
Chandigarh, December 22: Haryana Transport Minister, Mool Chand Sharma said that in a bid to decline the number of road accidents, along with construction of roads, the officers concerned should also ensure safety standards. The Minister said this while presiding over a meeting of the State Road Safety Council here at Haryana Niwas.
While giving directions regarding the present foggy weather, Mool Chand Sharma said that the concerned department should ensure that proper marking on roads is done on priority basis. Besides this, reflectors and reflecting tapes are also pasted on vehicles like tractors and trolleys. He further directed the officers that reflecting tapes should be pasted on the horns of stray animals roaming the streets to avoid road accidents due to these animals.
The Minister said that the responsibility of the contractor should also, be fixed for the duration for which the contract has been made for the construction of a road so that the contractor should repair the damaged road within that time period fixed for the construction of that road.
At the meeting, the officers of all departments were directed to set a deadline for completion of their works. The Minister said that all the departments should construct at least 5 km model roads in every district with 100 percent road safety standards. He also said that these model roads should be constructed in the accident prone areas. In the meeting it was also directed that departments should set their targets at the district level too.
It was informed that officers should chalk out a plan to implement Motor Vehicle Driving Regulations. Under this, training is also required for providing information about these Regulations to officers of XEN and JE rank at the district level so that road safety standards should be followed during the construction of roads.
All departments have also been directed to conduct 100 percent audit. All the concerned departments have also been directed to appoint an officer in the lead agency at state level which could work full time.
In the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary, Public Works Department, Alok Nigam, Director General of Police, Manoj Yadava, Principal Secretary, Transport Department, Shatrujeet Kapur, Chief Executive Officer, Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority, Varinder Singh Kundu, Transport Commissioner, S.S. Phulia, Joint Transport Commissioner (Road Safety), Ashok K. Munjal and other officers were present.
