Chandigarh July 27– Sydney Olympics-2000 bronze medalist in weightlifting and Delhi Sports University Vice Chancellor, Smt. Karnam Malleswari met the Governor of Haryana, Sh. Bandaru Dattatreya, at Raj Bhavan today. Governor Sh. Bandaru Dattatreya spoke in detail about the sports with Smt. Karnam Malleswari.

Sh. Dattatreya said that sports have grown in the state for the last many years and the interest of youth towards sports has also increased. The state has much more potential in the field of sports. Many sports promotion programme schemes have been started by the State Government, due to which maximum 30 players of the state are participating in Tokyo Olympics-2020.

While congratulating the players, the Governor urged all the players to put their best foot forward in the Olympic Games which will reap good results and the sportspersons will win more medals for the country.

Elaborating on it, he said that women players had a good start in the Tokyo Olympics-2020. Saikhom Mirabai Chanu has won silver medal in weightlifting, he added which is a matter of pride for every Indian. He has extended congratulations and best wishes to Mirabai Chanu.

Smt. Malleswari said that along with men sportsperson there is an increased interest of women in sports in the state as well. This time also 16 women players from Haryana were participating in Tokyo Olympics-2020 which is a matter of happiness for the people of the state.
