Chandigarh, September 4: Education focusing on holistic development of students, their skill upgradation, promoting meaningful research for society, welfare of mankind and making our children responsible global citizens should be the focus of higher education institutions, especially universities. This was stated by Haryana Governor and Chancellor of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) Sh. Bandaru Dattatraya during his official visit to the campus today.
The Governor-Chancellor gave clarion call to the university community to develop MDU as a Centre of Academic Excellence and Centre of Entrepreneurship Excellence. He said that research must not be limited to laboratories but must percolate to society, contributing significantly to the welfare of mankind. Sh. Dattatraya said the focus should be on skill development and entrepreneurship to make missions like Skill India, Digital India and Make in India successful.
Sh. Dattatraya visited several teaching departments of the university, especially the Department of Life Sciences, as also Choudhary Ranbir Singh Institute of Social and Economic Change (CRSI), and interacted with the heads of departments and institutes and faculty members. He also evinced keen interest in the academic and research developments of the varsity. He appreciated the developmental strides of the varsity in the field of academics and research.
During his visit to MDU, Governor-Chancellor Sh. Bandaru Dattatraya visited the Dr Mangal Sain Indoor Multi-Purpose Gymnasium Hall where he interacted with Director Sports, sports coaches, eminent Dronacharya Awardees, Arjun Awardees, Bhim Awardees, Olympians, Commonwealth and Asian Games sportspersons. He expressed happiness over the sports achievements of Maharshi Dayanand University. He also visited the Vivekanand Library, and took a round in the Library. He also planted a sapling on the occasion in the premises of Vivekanand Library.
Earlier, Vice Chancellor of MDU Professor Rajbir Singh, Registrar Professor Gulshan Lal Taneja, and University Deans welcomed the Governor-Chancellor on his arrival on the university campus. MDU VC Professor Rajbir Singh briefed him about the developmental strides of the university, especially its multiple achievements in various spheres. A detailed presentation highlighting various aspects of MDU’s progress was also made before the Governor-Chancellor.
Notably, Governor-Chancellor Sh. Bandaru Dattatraya will address the faculty members of MDU on September 5 on the occasion of Teachers’ Day. He will also lay the foundation stone of Savitribai Phule Reading-cum-Multipurpose Hall in the Girls Hostel Complex of the University tomorrow.
