Chandigarh, April 23 : Additional Principal Secretary to Haryana Chief Minister and Director General, Information, Public Relations and Languages Department, Dr. Amit Agrawal, , said that during the COVID-19 pandemic, Information and Public Relations Officers should help foster positivity among the people of the state by giving them authentic and accurate information through the media. Make efforts to prevent the spread of misleading news by giving timely information of the steps taken by the State Government to help the people suffering from COVID-19, he added.
Dr. Agrawal was presiding over a meeting of Information and Public Relations officers from all the districts of the State to review the arrangements being made by the department for the prevention of COVID-19 to help people overcome fear and alert those who are being careless during these challenging times from Chandigarh today through video conferencing. Additional Director (Admin.), Information, Public Relations and Languages Department, Varsha Khangwal, Additional Director (Field), Kuldeep Saini and Joint Director (Press), Neerja Bhalla were present during the meeting.
Dr. Amit Agrawal said that the State Government is taking all possible steps to deal with COVID-19. While on one hand the State Government is taking necessary steps to treat the people of the state suffering from COVID-19, on the other hand healthy people are also being made aware of how to prevent the spread. He said that it is the responsibility of the Information, Public Relations and Languages Department to convey the news of the preparations of these best efforts and arrangements to the people on time. He said that the officers of the department have to make people aware of COVID-19 through hoardings and posters apart from newspapers, electronic channels, community and FM radio and social media. Through the media, we have to convince people that they must use masks, and sanitize their hands to avoid infection. Information regarding people who are recovering from COVID-19 must also be conveyed to the public so that those who are affected have the courage and passion to fight this illness and to get well soon through such positive news.
Dr. Agrawal further directed the officers to try to clear the misconceptions about the vaccine with the help of the Health Department so that more and more people get vaccinated, as there is no shortage of vaccine in the state. He said that any false news related to the shortage of oxygen, beds and other facilities should be brought to the notice of the concerned department and accurate information should be disseminated to counter false news so that no one has to face problems.
Dr. Agrawal called upon all the officers of the department to do their duty diligently during the COVID-19 Pandemic while contributing to create a positive environment.
