MCM organises workshop and webinar on IPRs

The Institution Innovation Council (IIC) of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh organised an online workshop on ‘Intellectual Property Rights and IP Management for Start-ups’. The resource person for the same was Ms. Pooja Kumar, Founder and Director, Innove Intellect LLP. The workshop recorded participation of over 104 students and faculty members. Ms. Pooja started the session by introducing the concept of start-ups with special reference to women entrepreneurship. She then explained the concept of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) and its various types with special reference to patents, copyrights and trademarks. She also talked about the government initiatives to support and boost start-ups and the benefits that can be derived from a start-up with registered IPRs. In another activity, the IIC organised a webinar titled ‘Identifying Intellectual Property at the Early Stage of Innovation’ by Mr. Vineet Sharma, Senior Vice President, TT Consultants Pvt. Ltd. The session started with some interesting case studies of products to explain the concept of innovation. Mr. Vineet elaborated on the relevance and importance of intellectual property rights to safegurad innovative products and ideas. He gave details about the different types of IPRs, the procedure of getting them registered and the term of validity of IPRs. With the help of case studies, he discussed products which lost huge amount of revenue due to non registration of the intellectual property at the early stage of innovation. Both the sessions witnessed enthusiastic participation of students who found the sessions highly informative and useful.
Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava lauded the endeavours of IIC to educate the future innovators about the crucial concept of IPRs. She said that the college envisions to systematically promote the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among students through such meaningful initiatives, thereby laying the foundation of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
