Response to Calling Attention Motion
From 2014 till now, 16,409 sports persons have been awarded cash prizes worth Rs.641.08 crore

Haryana Minister of State for Sports Sh. Gaurav Gautam said there is no discrimination by the State Government in awarding cash prizes and government jobs to sportspersons who have brought glory to the state and the country by winning medals in the Olympics, Paralympics, Asian/Para Asian Games, and several other championships and games.
He said that Haryana Government has always been supporting the sportspersons. From time to time, cash prizes have been awarded to medal winners of the Olympics, Paralympics, Asian/Para Asian Games, and other championships in accordance with the State’s cash award policies.
The Sports Minister was responding in the Vidhan Sabha today to an Attention Motion moved by some members. Sh. Gaurav Gautam informed that since April 1, 2017, cash awards are being given to Haryana sportspersons who win medals or participate in international and national sports competitions, under the state government’s Cash Award Notification. From 2014 till now, cash prizes have been awarded to sportspersons of the state. He stated that since 2014, a total of 16,409 sportspersons have been given cash awards amounting to Rs.641.08 crore. Sportspersons seeking government jobs can submit their applications at the Directorate of Sports, Panchkula.
The Sports Minister further informed that since 2013–14, the Haryana Government has offered government jobs to 231 sportspersons, out of which 203 have already joined.
He also highlighted that during the previous Congress Government, Olympic medal winners were given Rs.5 crore for gold, Rs. 3 crore for silver, and Rs. 2 crore for bronze, while participants were given Rs. 11 lakh. In contrast, under the present BJP Government, Olympic gold, silver, and bronze medal winners are being awarded Rs. 6 crore, Rs. 4 crore, and Rs. 2.5 crore respectively, and participants are given Rs. 15 lakh.
Similarly, under the Congress Government, winners of Asian Games gold, silver, and bronze medals were awarded Rs. 2 crore, Rs. 1 crore, and Rs. 50 lakh respectively, and participants were given Rs. 5 lakh. Under the present BJP Government, Asian Games winners of gold, silver, and bronze medals are awarded Rs. 3 crore, Rs. 1.5 crore, and Rs. 75 lakh respectively, while participants are given Rs. 7.5 lakh.
He asserted that the government is fully committed to providing all facilities, respect, and recognition to sportspersons. The Opposition is trying to spread confusion regarding sportspersons, but such attempts will not succeed, he added.
