Panchkula, 21 December 2025

Rajya Sabha MP Kartikeya Sharma visited the Swadeshi Mahotsav 2025 being held at the Sector-5 Parade Ground in Panchkula. On this occasion, he witnessed a glimpse of Haryana’s ancient social and cultural heritage and inspected various stalls promoting indigenous products.

Appreciating the event, Kartikeya Sharma said that it is a very beautiful Swadeshi fair and that more than 40,000 people have already visited it on the very first day. He noted that the festival showcases Haryana’s rich heritage and culture, which must be carried forward to the next generation. He described the effort by Swadeshi Jagran Manch as commendable.

He said the Mahotsav reflects a sincere attempt to translate the Prime Minister’s call for Swadeshi into action on the ground. Indigenous products made by small entrepreneurs are being actively encouraged, and today India has emerged as the world’s fourth-largest economy. Such programmes, he added, should continue, as they provide encouragement to sections of society that often remain deprived.

Speaking on the bill related to MGNREGA, Kartikeya Sharma said that under the scheme, the name has been changed to “Ji Ram Ji” and the number of working days has been increased to 125. He stated that Mahatma Gandhi was also a follower of Lord Shri Ram and would not have had any objection to this. He accused the Congress of attempting to politicise the issue through appeasement politics, calling it a matter of concern. He said no one should have any objection to the name of Lord Shri Ram, as in Haryana people across all castes, communities, and religions greet each other by saying “Ram Ram.” He added that the people of the country are continuously responding to the Congress, but they are unwilling to understand it.

Commenting on the incident involving opposition legislators and marshals during the Assembly session, he termed it unfortunate and said such incidents have no place in a parliamentary democracy. He emphasised that India has the largest youth population and questioned what kind of example elected representatives are setting for the younger generation. He said those making irresponsible statements will face action as per the law, and all necessary procedures will be followed to ensure accountability. While everyone has rights in a democracy, maintaining its dignity is equally important.

On the issue of atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh, he said the incident was extremely unfortunate and expressed his condolences to the affected families. He stated that if such incidents occur, India must come together as one, irrespective of party lines, and strongly condemn them.

Concluding his remarks, Kartikeya Sharma said that Swadeshi Mahotsav plays a crucial role on the path to a developed India. It is not merely an event, but a movement and a significant effort that will serve as a foundation stone in making India a developed nation by 2047.
