Women needed in agricultural sector for second green revolution: Prof. Samar Singh

Chandigarh, December 5

The Vice-Chancellor of Chaudhary Charan Singh, Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, Professor Samar Singh said that if we want to bring  second green revolution in the country, the role of women and their participation in the agriculture sector has to be ensured.  For this, it is necessary to provide incentives and financial facilities to women farmers.

The Vice- Chancellor was speaking as the Chief Guest on the occasion of ‘Mahila Kisan Divas’, observed at the University’s Home Science College.  The programme was presided over by Dr. Bimala Dhanda, the head of the college.

Professor Singh said that today women constitute half of the total population of the country, yet they are still deprived of basic facilities, especially in rural areas. Not only should women be appreciated for their contribution to the field of agriculture, they should also be further involved in farming for their empowerment.

About 200 women who performed well in the field of agriculture also shared their farming experiences on the occasion.
