Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Training Command, Commandant,
\nAir Force Academy, Faculty Staff, Newly Commissioned Officers,
\nproud parents and families, Trainee officers, esteemed veterans, distinguished guests, members of the media, ladies and Gentlemen.<\/p>\n

It is indeed an honour and privilege for me to be here and review the Combined Graduation Parade of\u00a0208th<\/sup>\u00a0Pilot and Ground duty Course<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0133rd<\/sup>\u00a0Nav Course\u00a0<\/strong>along with\u00a0two Officers from the Indian Navy<\/strong>,
\nNine Officers from the Indian Coast Guard<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Three cadets from Vietnam,<\/strong>\u00a0who have received their Wings today.<\/p>\n

I would like to express my heartfelt\u00a0grief and sorrow<\/strong>\u00a0on the untimely demise of Gen Bipin Rawat, Mrs Madhulika Rawat and twelve armed forces\u2019 personnel on board the ill-fated helicopter on 08 December. We have chosen to\u00a0cut down many events<\/strong>\u00a0that would otherwise have been part of this graduation parade as a\u00a0mark of respect<\/strong>\u00a0to the departed souls.<\/p>\n

At the outset, I would like to convey my heartiest congratulations to\u00a0all Graduating Officers<\/strong>\u00a0for the\u00a0immaculate<\/strong>\u00a0turn out<\/strong>,\u00a0precise drill movements<\/strong>, and an\u00a0excellent parade<\/strong>. I am sure that today, you would be filled with\u00a0immense satisfaction, pride and excitement<\/strong>\u00a0as you march through the hallowed portals of\u00a0Sekhon Block<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0to become\u00a0commissioned officers<\/strong>\u00a0of one of the\u00a0finest Air Forces in the world<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

I congratulate you for your\u00a0individual and collective achievements<\/strong>\u00a0and my\u00a0felicitations to all the award winners<\/strong>\u00a0for displaying\u00a0exceptional professional commitment\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0hard work<\/strong>\u00a0all through your training period.<\/p>\n

I\u00a0acknowledge<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0appreciate<\/strong>\u00a0the efforts put in by each one you in this academy to reach this\u00a0significant milestone<\/strong>\u00a0of your life. I would like to convey my\u00a0deepest gratitude<\/strong>\u00a0to all\u00a0parents and family members<\/strong>\u00a0who have\u00a0nurtured and raised<\/strong>\u00a0you to take on a career in the\u00a0Indian Air Force<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

You have undergone an\u00a0extensive curriculum<\/strong>\u00a0as part of a\u00a0rigorous training schedule<\/strong>, designed to prepare you for\u00a0leadership roles<\/strong>\u00a0in the profession that you have chosen. Your\u00a0successful passing out<\/strong>\u00a0is a direct reflection of the skills you have\u00a0developed and demonstrated<\/strong>\u00a0while acquiring knowledge. I\u00a0commend<\/strong>\u00a0the efforts of all officers and airmen who have guided, mentored and taught you\u00a0not just the basics of your profession<\/strong>\u00a0but also imbibed in you the ethos of IAF which is,\u00a0\u2018Mission, Integrity and Excellence\u2019<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Remember, that the same\u00a0dedication, adaptability and willingness<\/strong>\u00a0to continually push yourselves will be required from you time and again in the future. The same\u00a0high standards<\/strong>\u00a0that\u00a0you<\/strong>\u00a0have shown today will form the basis of\u00a0safe and effective operations<\/strong>\u00a0in the future, no matter what your role.<\/p>\n

Although, your formal training has been successfully completed, do remember, that\u00a0the learning process has only just begun<\/strong>\u00a0and you would be required to\u00a0continue to work hard and take on additional responsibilities<\/strong>\u00a0as Officers in the IAF.<\/p>\n

You must remember that the sacred oath you took,\u00a0bearing allegiance to the Constitution of India<\/strong>, is a commitment for life. You must work \u2018honestly and faithfully<\/strong>\u2019 with utmost dedication and integrity throughout your career.<\/p>\n

As you move from AFA to your units in the field, you will operate\u00a0expensive<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0sophisticated<\/strong>\u00a0equipment, for which you will have to\u00a0gain expertise<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0mastery<\/strong>. The nature of warfare is undergoing\u00a0fundamental<\/strong>\u00a0changes<\/strong>. New\u00a0technology and radically newer doctrines<\/strong>\u00a0have emerged in the last few years. India\u2019s security dynamics\u00a0involves multi- faceted threats and challenges<\/strong>. It would require us to build\u00a0multi-domain capabilities<\/strong>\u00a0and execute all our\u00a0operations simultaneously and in shortened timeframes<\/strong>. The Air Force has\u00a0big expectations<\/strong>\u00a0from you as\u00a0you<\/strong>\u00a0will be the\u00a0leaders<\/strong>\u00a0who will\u00a0steer<\/strong>\u00a0the\u00a0IAF<\/strong>\u00a0and this\u00a0country<\/strong>\u00a0into the future.<\/p>\n

The IAF is on the\u00a0cusp of transformation<\/strong>\u00a0into a\u00a0highly potent<\/strong>\u00a0Air Force with new inductions like\u00a0Rafale<\/strong>,\u00a0Apache<\/strong>,\u00a0Chinook<\/strong>\u00a0and a wide variety of\u00a0SAGW<\/strong>\u00a0systems. Today, as you graduate and move into an environment that is\u00a0challenging<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0technology<\/strong>\u00a0intensive<\/strong>, the IAF looks upon\u00a0young and dynamic officers\u00a0<\/strong>like you to\u00a0carry forward the rich legacy of professional attitude, aptitude and temperament shown by your predecessors<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

To be a\u00a0good officer<\/strong>, you must have an\u00a0overall appreciation<\/strong>\u00a0of the\u00a0nuances\u00a0<\/strong>of\u00a0all branches<\/strong>\u00a0of IAF. Therefore, the ability to understand working of all branches –\u00a0Be it flying, technical, logistics, accounts or administration<\/em><\/strong>,<\/em>\u00a0will\u00a0complement<\/strong>\u00a0your basic professional knowledge and help you in becoming a\u00a0\u201cThorough Professional\u201d.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

As officers, you must develop an understanding of this\u00a0complex<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0dynamic<\/strong>\u00a0world through the\u00a0study of military history, geo-politics and<\/strong>\u00a0international affairs<\/strong>. This can be possible\u00a0only<\/strong>\u00a0if you\u00a0inculcate good reading habits,<\/strong>\u00a0in the\u00a0early years<\/strong>\u00a0of your service career. The IAF will give you\u00a0ample opportunities<\/strong>\u00a0to\u00a0perform, excel and nurture<\/strong>\u00a0your professional competence, if you have the\u00a0will and the fortitude<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As a\u00a0military officer<\/strong>\u00a0you are bound to face\u00a0certain hardships<\/strong>\u00a0in your career.\u00a0Never<\/strong>\u00a0allow these hardships and constraints to\u00a0affect you mentally and physically<\/strong>. There is an old adage,\u00a0\u201cwhen the going gets tough, the tough get going\u201d<\/em><\/strong>– this should be the motto of your career and you should remain\u00a0physically, emotionally and mentally<\/strong>\u00a0fit<\/strong>\u00a0to meet and accept any challenge in life.<\/p>\n

What does the IAF expect from you as Officers and commanders?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>We expect\u00a0exceptional professionalism and<\/strong>\u00a0unquestioned integrity<\/strong>. We expect you to maintain the\u00a0highest standards of personal conduct and moral values<\/strong>\u00a0that would reflect the\u00a0dignity and pride of being in the profession of arms<\/strong>. We expect you to be\u00a0fair, consistent and selfless<\/strong>\u00a0while at work, to have\u00a0compassion<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0understanding<\/strong>, to have the\u00a0courage<\/strong>\u00a0and of course\u00a0to live up to the values<\/strong>\u00a0that have been ingrained in you during your training period.<\/p>\n

Today is a joyous moment for you and your family members. Also, it is a day when your\u00a0ambitions and ideas<\/strong>\u00a0will take wings and form an integral part of your journey in the IAF. You must always live up to the trust and faith this organization has placed on your shoulders. \u201cCarry this responsibility with pride\u201d<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As I congratulate you, I also pray that the qualities which have carried you through the\u00a0rigorous regime<\/strong>\u00a0of AFA, will\u00a0further develop and mature<\/strong>\u00a0during your career. I am confident that the training that you have received under an\u00a0able and competent faculty<\/strong>\u00a0will not fail you in the most difficult situations. I am also certain that you will\u00a0carry ahead<\/strong>\u00a0the rich legacy of\u00a0great resolve, exceptional professionalism and timeless traditions,<\/strong>\u00a0into a world of\u00a0infinite possibilities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Once again,\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>I would like to wish you\u00a0all the very best for your career in the Indian Air Force\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0May you all, \u201cTouch the sky with glory\u201d.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n
