It would open the human world to innumerable possibilities. Above that, it would help us prevent several genetic diseases from passing on to our offspring. <\/span><span class=\"s3\">These genetic scissors have been <\/span><span class=\"s3\">created by <\/span><span class=\"s3\">two women: <\/span><span class=\"s3\">52-year-old <\/span><span class=\"s3\">Emmanuelle <\/span><span class=\"s3\">Charpentier<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> of France and <\/span><span class=\"s3\">56-year- old <\/span><span class=\"s3\">Jennifer <\/span><span class=\"s3\">Doudna<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> of America. <\/span><span class=\"s3\">These two managed to win the Nobel Prize in Chemistry <\/span><span class=\"s3\">for their creation: <\/span><span class=\"s3\">CRISPR<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> or <\/span><span class=\"s3\">Clustered Regularly Interspaced <\/span><span class=\"s3\">Short <\/span><span class=\"s3\">Palindromic <\/span><span class=\"s3\">Repeats<\/span><span class=\"s3\">. They started it\u2019s creation in <\/span><span class=\"s3\">2012 and since then, everybody has been excited to see it work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span class=\"s4\">HOW <\/span><span class=\"s4\">CRISPR<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> WORKS? <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s3\">It works in an interesting manner. CRISPR identifies <\/span><span class=\"s3\">the area of problem in the gene sequence and replaces it with the problem sequence.<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> It act like a natural <\/span><span class=\"s3\">defense<\/span><span class=\"s3\">mechanism for the body. <\/span><span class=\"s3\">An RNA molecule is used to find out the problem in the gene sequence.<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> Then a protein <\/span><span class=\"s3\">called <\/span><span class=\"s3\">Cas9, also called genetic scissors, is used to deal with the problematic DNA strand. <\/span><span class=\"s3\">It works in the long term and has found to be very efficient in eliminating life threatening diseases like cancer and AIDS. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span class=\"s4\">HOW THEY PIECED IT TOGETHER? <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s3\">Both the Nobel Prize Winners met at a conference <\/span><span class=\"s3\">in Puerto Rico <\/span><span class=\"s3\">in 2011. They happened to work together as both of them required another person to assist them with their findings. <\/span><span class=\"s3\">Charpentier<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> was working when she felt the need of a biochemist to help her carry on the project. <\/span><span class=\"s3\">They both finally collaborated to create the genetic scissors.
