Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX), the flagship initiative of the Department of Defence Production, has reached a milestone with the signing of its 300th\u00a0contract.\u00a0The contract relates\u00a0 to\u00a0the\u00a0design and development of advanced Gallium Nitride Semiconductors\u00a0which is\u00a0essential for the next generation of wireless transmitters in defence applications ranging from radars to EW (Electronics Warfare)\u00a0jammers.\u00a0Currently, almost all GaN components are imported\u00a0being a sensitive and cutting-edge technology whose export is controlled and restricted\u00a0by many countries.\u00a0The\u00a0proposal\u00a0aims to design, develop and manufacture GaN components for defence in India using completely indigenous GaN technology.\u00a0This\u00a0would\u00a0significantly enhance the\u00a0indigenous design & development capability, paving way for immense potential in the defence sector including exports.<\/p>\n

The contract was signed by Additional Secretary (Defence Industries Production) &\u00a0 CEO\/DIO\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0T Natarajan\u00a0with\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0M\/s\u00a0Agnit Semiconductors Private Limited\u00a0\u00a0in the presence of Defence Secretary Shri Giridhar Aramane and other senior civil & military officials of Ministry of Defence in New Delhi on December 01, 2023. The iDEX achieved the milestone within nine month\u00a0 of the signing of\u00a0its\u00a0200th contract with a winner of the Indian Navy Prime challenge launched under the SPRINT initiative on February 15, 2023.\u00a0The 150th\u00a0Contract of iDEX was signed in December, 2022.<\/p>\n

In his address, the Defence Secretary lauded the innovators on their success and reiterated the need for accelerated development of indigenous technologies. He complimented iDEX on the signing of the 300th\u00a0contract\u00a0and asked\u00a0the Officials to maintain the impressive tempo of connecting innovators with the\u00a0Defence\u00a0Sector.<\/p>\n

In another development,\u00a0continuing with the commitment towards ‘Make in India’ initiative\u00a0and iDEX\u00a0being\u00a0a\u00a0\u2018path to procurement\u2019\u00a0for\u00a0the\u00a0innovators,\u00a0BEL\u00a0signed\u00a0a procurement\u00a0contract with\u00a0the\u00a0iDEX Winner\u00a0M\/s Blurgs Innovations Private Limited\u00a0for their solution TRIDENT,\u00a0which\u00a0 is an\u00a0intelligent maritime domain awareness tool\u00a0with\u00a0a robust solution designed to enhance\u00a0maritime security. This\u00a0solution\u00a0assists\u00a0in building superior\u00a0maritime domain\u00a0awareness\u00a0by relying on\u00a0anomalous\u00a0detection and would aid in quicker decision making.\u00a0This is\u00a0a\u00a0first\u00a0procurement order\u00a0placed\u00a0by\u00a0a\u00a0Defence\u00a0Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) under the iDEX scheme.<\/p>\n

The iDEX framework was launched by the Prime Minister in 2018 with the objective to provide a platform of co-creation and co-development in the defence sector, engage start-ups and develop defence and aerospace set up in the country. The iDEX is being implemented by the Defence Innovation Organisation (DIO), established under the Department of Defence Production.<\/p>\n

Within a short span of time iDEX, which has also been awarded the prestigious Prime Minister Award for Public Policy in Innovation Category for the year 2021, has emerged as a game changer in the defence eco-system through its flagship programmes like DISC,\u00a0Prime and Open Challenges (OC). iDEX has been able to build the required momentum and generate a critical mass of start-ups in the defence sector.\u00a0It has also been able to generate thousands of jobs and attract India\u2019s talent back to the country.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
