Syrma SGS currently operates four manufacturing units in Chennai, with its Unit 3 now initiating laptop production.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the inauguration, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw said, &#8220;We must work meticulously to ensure that the electronic component ecosystem is also developed in the coming time. This will not only drive a major growth story for India but also align with our vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, fostering self-reliance and strengthening our position in the global electronics manufacturing landscape.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The initiative, part of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.meity.gov.in\/writereaddata\/files\/Guidelines_PLI-Scheme-ITHW.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>PLI 2.0 scheme for IT Hardware<\/strong><\/a>, highlights India\u2019s growing capabilities in high-value electronics production and reinforces the nation\u2019s self-reliance in IT hardware.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Key Highlights of the Assembly line<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Global Partnership<\/strong>: Syrma SGS has partnered with Micro-Star International (MSI), a leading Taiwanese technology company, to manufacture high-quality laptops in India, catering to both domestic and global markets.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Boosting Local Economy<\/strong>: The facility is projected to generate 150-200 specialized jobs in electronics manufacturing by FY26, making a substantial impact on both Tamil Nadu\u2019s regional and India\u2019s national economy. These roles are anticipated to have a ripple effect, shaping and enhancing the future workforce in the sector.<\/li>\n<li><strong>World-Class Standards:<\/strong>\u00a0The laptops produced will meet international quality benchmarks, showcasing India\u2019s evolving technical and manufacturing prowess.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/2TPRN.jpeg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>India\u2019s Rising Electronics Manufacturing Sector<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>India\u2019s electronics manufacturing sector has grown exponentially over the past decade, with<strong>\u00a0total production<\/strong>\u00a0increasing from \u20b92.4 lakh crore in 2014 to\u00a0<strong>\u20b99.8 lakh crore in 2024<\/strong>.\u00a0<strong>Mobile manufacturing<\/strong>\u00a0alone has reached\u00a0<strong>\u20b94.4 lakh crore<\/strong>, with\u00a0<strong>exports at \u20b91.5 lakh crore in 2024<\/strong>. 98% of the mobile phones used in India are now being manufactured in India with Smartphones becoming the fourth largest export item from India.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Tamil Nadu: A Key Contributor<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tamil Nadu<\/strong>\u00a0has over\u00a0<strong>47 manufacturing units<\/strong>\u00a0supported under various schemes of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The state is one of the largest beneficiaries of the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for Large Scale Electronics Manufacturing, with\u00a0<strong>seven out of the 27 approved units under PLI 2.0 located here<\/strong>. The first unit under this initiative was inaugurated yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Tamil Nadu has seen significant support through programs such as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pib.gov.in\/PressReleaseIframePage.aspx?PRID=1881407\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Scheme for Promotion of Manufacturing of Electronic Components and Semiconductors<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0<strong>(SPECS)<\/strong>, with four applications receiving\u00a0<strong>MeitY backing of \u20b91,200 crore<\/strong>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.meity.gov.in\/esdm\/incentive-schemes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Modified Special Incentive Package Scheme<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u00a0(M-SIPS)<\/strong>, which has attracted 33 applications with an investment potential of \u20b915,000 crore, supported by\u00a0<strong>\u20b91,500 crore from MeitY<\/strong>. Together, these initiatives have enabled companies in Tamil Nadu to achieve a\u00a0<strong>total production<\/strong>\u00a0exceeding\u00a0<strong>\u20b91.3 lakh crore<\/strong>\u00a0to date.<\/p>\n<p>The state is also home to the\u00a0<strong>Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC)<\/strong>\u00a0at Pillaipakkam Village, Sriperumbudur, established by M\/s State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT). With a project cost of \u20b9420 crore, including\u00a0<strong>\u20b9210 crore in support from the Government of India<\/strong>, this cluster is expected to attract\u00a0<strong>investments\u00a0<\/strong>worth\u00a0<strong>\u20b98,700 crore<\/strong>\u00a0and create\u00a0<strong>36,300 jobs<\/strong>. Tamil Nadu contributes around 30% of India\u2019s electronics exports, underscoring its pivotal role in the sector. Notably, the latest\u00a0<strong>iPhone 16 Pro is proudly &#8220;Made in India&#8221;\u00a0<\/strong>and manufactured in Tamil Nadu.<\/p>\n<p>Scheme-wise beneficiaries in the state of Tamil Nadu can be accessed from<strong>\u00a0here<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>A Bright Future for laptop manufacturing Manufacturing<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The inauguration of Syrma SGS\u2019s laptop assembly line marks a new chapter in India\u2019s electronics journey, paving the way for\u00a0<strong>reduced dependency on imports, enhanced employment opportunities,\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>world-class manufacturing capabilities.<\/strong>\u00a0As the facility ramps up production, India is poised to become a global leader in IT hardware manufacturing.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/image003KYO3.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Status of PLI 2.0 for IT Hardware<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) 2.0 for IT Hardware, launched on May 29, 2023, aims to further strengthen India\u2019s electronics manufacturing ecosystem by offering a 5% incentive to eligible companies.<\/p>\n<p>The scheme covers products like laptops, tablets, all-in-one PCs, servers, and ultra-small form factor devices.
