The officer trainees of Indian Revenue Service (78th<\/sup>\u00a0batch) called on the President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan today (March 4, 2025).<\/p>\n

Addressing the\u00a0officers, the President said that the job of Indian Revenue Service officers is one of the most important functions for governance and welfare.\u00a0She highlighted the importance of taxes\u00a0for\u00a0a vibrant economy.\u00a0\u00a0She added that as\u00a0Indian Revenue Service officers, they would play a pivotal role in ensuring that this essential resource is collected in a fair, effective, and transparent manner.<\/p>\n

The President said that\u00a0our infrastructure is growing, digital connectivity is bridging gaps, and the economic opportunities are more accessible than ever before.\u00a0She underlined that\u00a0for development to be sustainable and inclusive, resources must be managed with efficiency and fairness, and the citizens should trust the system.\u00a0She said that they have crucial role to play as\u00a0they\u00a0would oversee\u00a0the\u00a0process\u00a0to\u00a0ensure\u00a0that\u00a0everyone contributes according to their lawful capacity, while being treated with dignity and respect.<\/p>\n

The President said that the changing times,\u00a0growing expectations and government\u00a0initiatives\u00a0have ushered in a new era of greater efficiency, transparency and convenience. Digital technology is at the core of this\u00a0change. She was happy to note that the income tax department uses advanced data analytics to detect discrepancies with remarkable precision while ensuring that honest taxpayers\u00a0don’t face\u00a0inconvenience. She advised officers to remember that technology is just a tool, and it is not a substitute for human values. She said that data-driven systems may enhance efficiency, but they can never replace empathy and integrity. She told them that their policies and actions should be aimed towards the development of all, especially the underprivileged and weaker sections.<\/p>\n
