Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel has emphasised the vital role of genetic counselling in the fight against Sickle Cell Anaemia, urging greater community involvement to make these efforts more effective. He highlighted the need for utilising community mediators and local leadership, including panchayat representatives, to raise awareness about marital and prenatal precautions necessary to eliminate the genetic disorder.<\/span><\/p>\n

Presiding over a review meeting at Raj Bhavan under the aegis of the Tribal Cell, Governor Shri Patel said that Sickle Cell Anaemia is a hereditary disease that demands targeted community sensitisation and engagement. The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Shri Rajendra Shukla, AYUSH Minister Shri Inder Singh Parmar, and other senior officials.<\/span><\/p>\n

Governor Patel stated that a positive approach to patient recovery is essential, supported by certified medicines and treatment protocols. Given Madhya Pradesh\u2019s rich forest biodiversity, he called for the accelerated scientific validation of traditional herbal medicines used for managing Sickle Cell symptoms.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe goal should be to provide healthcare to every patient and carrier,\u201d he said. \u201cSickle Cell is a complex disease that can lead to over <\/span><\/span>21<\/span><\/b><\/span> types of health complications. Therefore, disease management must be multi-dimensional and integrated. Carriers should receive appropriate health support alongside patients, and communities must be guided toward healthy lifestyle practices,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Governor also stressed the importance of person-centred care, ensuring the availability of medicines at all levels, and providing universal access to treatment, medications, and genetic counselling. He recommended incorporating iron-rich food into hostel meals and involving Anganwadi centres in screening pregnant women, providing genetic counselling, and vaccinating newborns.<\/span><\/p>\n

Among those present at the meeting were Tribal Cell Chairman Shri Deepak Khandekar, Additional Chief Secretary to the Governor Shri K.C. Gupta, Principal Secretary AYUSH Shri D.P. Ahuja, Principal Secretary Public Health and Medical Education Shri Sandeep Yadav, and other senior departmental officials.<\/span><\/p>\n
