Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Jammu & Kashmir, expressed grave concern over the alarming surge in dengue cases across the Jammu division, accusing the present NC Government and the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) of utter negligence and failure to implement preventive measures to curb the spread of the disease.<\/p>\n

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters, Trikuta Nagar, Jammu, BJP Spokesperson and former Deputy Mayor, Adv. Purnima Sharma, along with Dr. Pardeep Mahotra, Media Secretary, J&K BJP, warned the NC-led government against playing with public health and demanded immediate corrective action.<\/p>\n

Adv. Purnima Sharma said that Jammu is witnessing a steep rise in dengue infections, with eighty-nine new cases reported on Saturday alone, taking the total tally to 1,316 this year. \u201cJust a week ago, the cases were under a hundred, and within days, they have crossed a thousand \u2014 exposing the administration\u2019s lack of preparedness and seriousness,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n

Sharma pointed out that J&K recorded nearly 7,000 dengue cases in 2024, 6,403 cases and 10 deaths in 2023, and 8,269 cases with 18 deaths in 2022, yet the authorities have failed to learn lessons. \u201cFogging drives are rare, and sanitation measures remain confined to paperwork. The NC government and JMC have left residents to fend for themselves amid rising infections,\u201d she said and demanded that the administration immediately launch intensive fogging, anti-larvae operations, and awareness campaigns across all wards.<\/p>\n

Adv. Purnima also criticized the Omar Abdullah-led NC government of focusing solely on Srinagar while ignoring Jammu\u2019s public health and hygiene. \u201cWhy is the government concerned only about Kashmir? Is Jammu\u2019s health less important?\u201d she asked, questioning the regime\u2019s double standards.<\/p>\n

Expressing concern over unhygienic street food and unchecked vendors, she urged JMC to conduct regular inspections and strict drives to ensure compliance with food safety standards. \u201cThere is a dire need for routine checks around schools, markets, and bus stands to prevent outbreaks of food-borne illnesses. Authorities must act before people start falling sick in large numbers,\u201d she warned.<\/p>\n

Dr. Pardeep Mahotra said that the NC government\u2019s half-hearted and regionally biased approach has endangered public health in Jammu. \u201cThe administration needs to adopt a proactive and preventive strategy, including Integrated Vector Management (IVM) to control mosquito breeding, epidemiological surveillance by Government and health departments, and a rapid coordinated health response,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n

Reiterating BJP\u2019s commitment to public welfare, Dr. Pardeep urged the government to wake up from its slumber and safeguard citizens from preventable diseases. He also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and seek medical attention for symptoms such as fever, eye pain, rashes, body aches, nausea, or bleeding, stressing that timely consultation can save lives and help contain the spread of dengue.<\/p>\n
