The National Highways Authority of India has prepared the plan and sent proposals for No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to the Railways and Haryana Roadways \u2013 Anil Vij<\/b><\/p>\n

The project was approved by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari at the request of Transport Minister Anil Vij<\/p>\n

The underpass will be approximately 60 meters long, extending from the bus stand\u2019s \u2018out gate\u2019 to the railway station\u2019s \u2018escalator\u2019<\/p>\n

Haryana\u2019s Transport Minister, Sh. Anil Vij said that pedestrian movement between the bus stand and the railway station, located opposite each other in Ambala Cantonment, will now become smoother and more convenient. A modern underpass will be constructed beneath GT Road, which will provide significant relief and convenience to lakhs of passengers and local residents.<\/p>\n

Sh. Vij informed that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has already prepared a plan for constructing an underpass between the railway station and the bus stand. Since the underpass will also fall within the jurisdiction of the Railways and Haryana Roadways, the Highway Authority has sought No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from both departments. Once the approvals are received, the construction process of the underpass will begin shortly.<\/p>\n

It is noteworthy that Transport Minister Anil Vij had apprised Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Sh. Nitin Gadkari, of the inconvenience being faced by passengers in front of the railway station and the bus stand, and had requested the construction of an underpass at this location. Acting on this request, the Union Minister directed the National Highways Authority to prepare a plan and proceed with the construction of the underpass.<\/p>\n

Transport Minister Anil Vij said that the construction of the underpass would be a major step toward improving passenger convenience. Ambala Cantonment Railway Station is one of the busiest railway stations in North India, with lakhs of passengers traveling by train every day. Similarly, directly opposite the station, on GT Road, is the Ambala Cantonment Bus Stand, from where hundreds of buses carry thousands of passengers daily. Since both the railway station and the bus stand are major transport hubs, the number of passengers commuting between them is very high. Between the two lies a busy national highway with heavy traffic, making it difficult and unsafe for passengers and local residents to cross. The underpass will effectively resolve this problem by enabling people to move directly between the railway station and the bus stand without having to cross the national highway.

\nUnderpass to be equipped with lighting and water drainage pump systems<\/b><\/p>\n

According to the plan prepared by the National Highways Authority, the underpass will be constructed near the bus stand\u2019s out gate on the GT Road side and will pass beneath GT Road up to the area near the railway station\u2019s escalator. The underpass will be approximately 60 meters long. It will be equipped with proper lighting and other essential facilities.
