Also calls for cancellation of Sisodia’s bail asserting it was being misused to appeal to the AAP cadre to indulge in corruption by bribing voters
Chandigarh, 16 August 2025
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today appealed to the Election Commission to take action against former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia for trying to incite fraternal bloodshed in Punjab even as he called for cancellation of the bail granted to Sisodia in a corruption case in view of the provocative utterances made by the latter recently.
The SAD president, who was referring to a recent clip of Manish Sisodia which is in the public realm and which encourages AAP workers to indulge in lies, false promises, illegal gratification of voters and even violence to win the 2027 assembly elections, said this was proof that AAP was going to vitiate the atmosphere of the State unless the Election Commissioner took firm action against it. “The Election Commission is requested to order registration of a criminal case against Sisodia as the AAP government is not likely to take action against the Delhi leader as chief minister Bhagwant Mann was part of the audience when Sisodia made these incendiary remarks. It should also recommend cancellation of the bail granted to Sisodia which is being misused to indulge in corruption by bribing voters, a charge in which the AAP leader is already facing trial”.
Mr Sukhbir Badal also appealed to the Election Commission to consider debarring AAP from contesting the 2027 assembly elections in Punjab in view of its open assertion that it would use illegal methods to seek a mandate in its favour. He said Punjab had witnessed more than a decade of militancy and had come out of it when leaders like S Parkash Singh Badal took steps to stitch together communal harmony to usher in lasting peace. “Now this Delhi based leader is pushing the State towards anarchy and communal violence by telling the AAP cadre to take violent steps to win the next elections”.
The SAD president also requested the Election Commission to examine the link between the start of heinous incidents of sacrilege in Punjab with the advent of AAP into the State in 2014. “Never before in the history of the State had such sacrileges been committed against Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji”. He also highlighted how AAP former Delhi legislator Naresh Yadav had been convicted for indulging in the sacrilege of the holy Koran in Malerkotla, indicating AAP had plotted incidents of sacrileges to destabilize the then ruling SAD government. Asserting that the AAP government could not be trusted to probe the link between the sacrileges and the advent of AAP in Punjab as it had done its best to procure a clean chit for Naresh Yadav, Mr Badal urged the Election Commission to recommend an impartial probe into this issue by a central agency.
